Post subject:  Vitara Body Lift bolt size

For the life of me, I cannot find the size of the two front bolts needed for the 2" body lift kits on a vitara.

can someone please let me know what length the M10 bolts are for under the headlights.

I want to get the body lift in this week end seeing as it's a public holiday up here this Monday.

thanks for any help.

Aren't they threaded into a captive nut- I think the thread pitch is as important as the length. I think they're 10x1.25, but I could be wrong.

The ones in the middle of the car are a internal thread bolt but the ones at the front and back are normal bolts aren't they.

They are but I think Steve is correct and they are a 1.25mm (metric fine) thread.

only the two front ones are normal 1.25 M10 bolts. i just needed the length.

the other 6 are captive studs in the body.

cheers for the help.

There is a captive nut, Steve is correct, and also that the thread is 1.25mm.

However it's an easy job to drill out the existing thread and just use a matching nut on the end of whatever M10 bolt you put through.

I managed to get some M10 bolts for the front. the bolt shop didn't have 140mm long ones. I just got the 130mm long ones. cheers DH.

I managed to get the headlights out and pulled a factory bolt. measured up at 70mm long not including the washer it has.

I should be doing the BL tomorrow. pics to come, but who hasn't seen pics of a BL on a vit.

cheers again guys.

Umm Id assume it was 140mm long for a reason?
Measure the stock bolts and add 50mm. If it's less than 130mm fine. Otherwise, you will need to get 140mm long bolts.
If you do need 140mm long bolts, it may be smarter to return those 130mm ones, and buy 150mm ones and cut them down to suit.
Using 10mm less thread engagement isnt a swell idea.

I assume you skim read. He mentioned the stock bolt was 70mm, 70+50=120mm so 130mm should give him enough

i'm not sure what or how people do the body lift on the front mounts, and no doubt there are half a dozen different ways.

I made up some crush tubes for the rubber mounts on the front so I can get it tight with out killing the rubber mounts.

with a 130mm long bolt, I had enough thread left to double nut the end of the bolt under the chassis captive.

even having a two poster at my disposal, doing the BL by myself was just as hard as doing it in the drive way with some trolley and scissor jacks.

problem with the two poster was that the arms were too long to put under the floor to balance the body properly. so even though the hoist lifts the body even left to right, reducing the chance of bending the body studs, I still had to lift the back end by other means.

I suppose a SWB soft top would be ok, but the added steel and glass of a LWB made it a bit awkward.
