I was wondering today how much higher(or lower) my 81 is from standard Has anyone got any measurements of a standard model say from ground to bottom of chassis rail at the front and back and from ground to the door sill? |

Here's some measurements I got off my LJ80v. Mega sagged original springs and Sierra size tyres. Quote: Because I'm a numbers man I measured up a whole bunch of things today. Just to clarify, stock car, original everything but the wheels and tyres which are sierra size. approx 50kgs load in the back and a full tank of fuel. Front diff clearance. 205mm Rear diff clearance. 210mm Front spring pad (measured from the end without the shock mount) clearance. 240mm Rear pad. 220mm Front shock clearance. 215mm Rear shock 200mm Passengers Sill clearance. 330mm Drivers sill 320mm Front bumper clearance 380mm Rear bumper 475mm Exhaust muffler clearance. 170mm Front drivers spring hanger clearance (measured ti the bottom of the main leaf directly under the spring hanger bolt) 225mm Front drivers shackle clearance 295mm Front passengers spring hanger 230mm Front passengers shackle 295mm Rear drivers spring hanger 265mm Rear drivers shackle 345mm Rear passengers spring hanger 270mm Rear passengers shackle 350mm I flexed it up a while ago by driving down* a ground level loading ramp with the passengers wheel staying at ground level. I drove until it started to lift a wheel. There was no load and I didn't jiggle it around to get more flex out of it or anything. LJ80s have the same front shocks as Sierras and the back is the same setup as the front with a pin top, eye bottom shock mounted outside the chassis rails with slightly longer shocks. All stock suspension, even the bushes are probably original (no mention of them being changed in the 21 year service history). Measurements are from the centre of the shock eye to the top on the mount on the chassis (ie, where the top rubber contacts the mount) Front passengers compressed 320mm (on bumpstop) Front drivers extended 405mm Rear passengers extended. 450mm Rear drivers compressed 345mm (on bumpstop) *Forwards, as in nose first. With my other LJ I got significantly better flex if I reversed down it but you don't reverse everywhere so this is more real world. I might try reversing this one later and see if I can force any more flex out of it. viewtopic.php?f=4&t=37003&p=743584&hilit=stockman#p743584 |

From my stuff you could easily figure out the clearance with standard size tyres. When I measured all that up the front tyres measured 26" and the rears 25". IIRC I calculated it and there was around an inch of sag in the front suspension, never measured the rear but it seemed less. So add 2" front and back and that's about as accurate as you'l get. Mine's on bartreads now but it has lifted springs. It's also 300kms away. |
