All I can say is my 2003 auto uses heaps more with nowhere near a tonne behind me on this trip. I would never tow a camper trailer of that size any long distance.
My trailer is 200kg empty, carrying 2 Jerry cans and a gas bottle upfront. 17kg rooftop tent, 20 litres of water, food and all the camping gear. Its amazing the difference from even my work tools in there compared to all this for a 4 week trip.
with all the above your trailer is nearly a ton
i have not towed with my vit as i have no tow bar however i have had it loaded to the hills and was nearly on rear bump stops it was rather under powered.
i would think it was ok provided the breaks work ok with that load and u dont mind going slow (like 80k's at 3,000 revs in 4th) (in manual) and using lots of fuel.
HOWEVER i would not recommend tho's with the alloy front diff housing to be towing a trailer offroad in 4wd that front diff wont last long
