Went out wheeling with DAB and got stuck in your typical paddock bog... You know grass and Really soggy ground.. So had to get recovered from the front.. Well.. the Factory hook has let go AKA snapped on one side. Now I really do Need help finding another suitable place to get recovered from the front if I wish to go out wheeling again. It was not even a bad bog... just a low speed pull got it out... but the Factory hook has definitely snapped...

it's an XL-7 could have just added it to your recovery point thread viewtopic.php?f=5&t=41109&start=30 it's got me stuffed why people recover off the front anyway, my biggest concern is loading up the weak side of the R&P's & where possible i'll always do a 200 point u-turn to recover from the rear & use my hitch receiver.

Think he was the one that got recovered, not doing the recovering. Apart from the JML bar there isn't any off the shelf options for front recovery points. Custom fab will be the go... crush tubes into the chassis and use a rated recovery hook?

ahhh true i still would have done everything possible to be recovered off the rear as his front loop was already damaged by a previous recovery & re-welded

Not an option... The XL7 was stuck on a trail where there were tree's right behind it.. No option to recover from the rear as that would have been the preference.... It was a last resort sort of scenario to use the front hook... It was not like there was an easier way... it was Stuck properly.. Lets just say that Wild Peak A/T's do NOT peform well on Slippery Grass/ Bog... The only way to have recover it from the rear would have been to chop down large blue gums... Ain't no body got time for that ...

While I've got the XL7 wreck in the shed ill have a look at how a recovery point can be fashioned up.

That would be AWESOME...um... On a Side note... How did you wreck an XL7 ?? Or was it bought for a Project ? The recovery point thing is something I think needs looking into not just for me but for the community as a whole as the front point on the GV's isn't really a rated point and for those of us that actually do take them off road it would be a great benefit if someone came up with a viable way to mount a rated point..

I wont be doing any engineering so it wont be a rated point but it will be another option those with the knowledge can pick the faults in it. As for wrecking a XL7.... I bought it as a shell. motor and box were already missing. There were a few parts I was after for my Gv and it was cheaper to buy this wreck than buy the parts from a wrecker.

I have been looking into possibly mount Hooks on a Steel Angle Bracked and Bolting it on to either side of the Sub frame with a tension strap between two points so as not to place too much load onto the sub frame ?? Still gonna have the issue of that excuse for a bullbar sitting in the way of a good recovery point.

I have checked and if they are mounted next to the sub frame with a equalisation strap it will allow it to be pulled up and out without messing up the bar.. The 40mm lift help solve the issue it had before which was it was too low to work.... Hindsite is a wonderful thing but... The ECB bar is on it now.. I just have to find a solution that works ! I looked into getting a front mounted tow bar fitted and just mount a hitch but...they apparently bolt onto all 4 sub frame bolts and still require access to the chassis rails.. which the bar prevents..
