not worth it, unless you like blowing up 16a's, add a turbo it for an even quicker result.... carby + turbo stopped being a good idea in the 80's when fuel injection became common.
what caused the last 2 motors to "blow up"?

I just blow my motor up (1.6a) after just putting motor In after blowing old one up Wanting to rebuild it and put a turbo on a 16a Is it worth it as I dont want to put a efi motor in it as all the problems Has anyone done a turbo on a 16a ? |

Afaik there have been a few around, I haven't looked here for them, you will hear a lot about how they don't like much boost before they pop so realistically you would be far better off spending the money on installing a g16b. If you really want upgraded power get a j20 into it, don't know if they fit in swb vits or not but jump on the search and you will find all the answers you need about this. |

First motor head completely blew on highway put second hand motor in which also did the head in, so now it has to be replaced/rebuilt, so absolutely useless turboing a carby ? Either efi or leave it isn't it |

would be ok, but a few considerations - I would change the carb for a Weber that has been re-jetted to supply a bit more fuel (dyno needed really). Maybe lower the compression with a thicker head gasket - (or make sure you use hi-o2 fuel) .. The main thing is not be over the top as far as boost, and to gradually increase. As long as it doesn't ping it should be ok. I reckon 8 - 10 PSI max .. you will break CV's, Drive shafts, and prob the GB ... but it will be fun... Oh and forged pistons would reduce the risk of broken pistons ... |

no problems with cv's and drive shafts here, my car doesn't have forged pistons either.... handles 14psi off a t28bb day in day out lol. if you are going to go down the turbo path, start with a g16b and budget lets say 8-10gs. keep in mind a g16a/b is not really a performance engine and never will be. I have done 15000 hard kilometres in mine with out a problem, I still cant say its reliable |
