The situation is this. Im trying to find longer wheel studs for my build to work with my KPD beadlocks. the front diff will use standard sierra knuckles, the rear will be CJ7 hubs. CJ7 use 1/2 inch studs with 15.875mm knurls Sierra are 12mm studs with 12.09mm knurls I've dug around and cannot find a 12mm threaded stud with a big enough knurl to transplant into the hole in the CJ hub. Can any one see any reason i cannot go to a 14mm stud? or have any other ideas on alternatives. note: i would rather not use different studs front and rear. |

I'm pretty sure Subaru studs are 14mm knurl and 12mm thread, I recall this from when I was looking into my ARP swap. Steve. |

if u cant find any just take them to your local mechinist they can mechine them down and tap a new thread into them however this would be costly (or u could drill out the rims for the bigger studs) |

sorry i must not have been very clear. im trying to track down if possible 12mm by 1.25 studs with a 15.875 or bigger knurl or run 14mm studs as i can definitly get the right sized knurl will 14mm studs cause any issues? |

tanshi wrote: mark i considered welding up the holes but wasnt confident enough in it not failing. to weld it up is not an issue place a bit of copper behind it and lay into it (the weld material wont fuse with the copper and the copper will fall right off then turn it over and weld the other side. the main issue is the shape of the holes are recessed and tapered and would be hard to replicate. |

Truth be told, the holes are closer to 16mm. 5stud F150 rims. |

If the current hole is 14mm, and you want to use a 14mm studd, if anything wont you be needing to make the hole bigger? and i assume the shape of the chamfer of the hole would need to match the chamfer of the nut? |

the whole in the rim is 14mm. the whole in the hub which hols the stud is 15.8mm |

ah my mistake, persumably you successfully weld the hub (which if its cast, i woudlnt be comfortable welding something that holds my wheel on) How are you going to make sure you drill the new holes in the correct spot? |

Welding the old ones closed may weaken the flange just as much as drilling a second set of holes. Tanshi if the hole in the wheels is 14mm, and the studs are M14, whats the issue? |

Right. I'd say so, but only to make it easier to get the wheels on. Just run a 14.5mm drill through the wheel holes. Should be enough, and won't remove enough of the taper to make any difference to how the wheel nuts pull up. |

A hub flange is 10mm thick. A wheel centre is not. And if you didn't see the issue with re-drilling a 6 stud wheel to 5 stud after all the PCD diagrams you were given, there is something terribly wrong with your eyes. |

looking at this again now that i have my full float rear 90 percent finished Ive come up with another option and wanted to see if people think it will be strong and safe If i put the old studs with the 15.875mm knurl in the lathe and centre drill them out to fit the knurl of the sierra stud i can just press them in to the hubs and use standard sized stud. what does ever one think? |

I don't quite follow that. Are the studs you have larger diameter than what you want and long enough? If yes, lathe those down and re-thread to what you want. |
