Hey guys, Ive searched but havent found enough info i plan to run a vit 3 speed auto an transfer with a sierra 6.5 case behind i was looking for a link to a complete build cant seem to find anything thanks in advance guys |

Unless you are planning 35"+ tyres, a trimatic and 6.5 transfer gears don't really make for a happy car on the highway - it's revving far too high. If you are planning big tyres, then the vitara low range (by itself) is pretty useless. If you really want to pursue dual cases, I'd be gearing the sierra case taller - maybe 4.1 gears or stock 1.0 transfer gears, so you have better high range for road use and can use all the ranges. Or just put an AW-4 in it with one transfer and call it good. Just my 2C. I think duals are a poor return for the effort. Steve. |

Exactly. Like drop shackles etc - posing. I'm at 100:1 + converter and it's as low as anyone could ever need. Near-as doubling that isn't going to help capability in any way. Steve. |

I've seen plenty of trucks on pirate with over 200:1 and think wtf 12.35:1 A hell of a lot for only 37 Will the sierra case take that much torque |

With the converter slipping I'm at 240:1. I can't be bothered with 1st low most of the time. Even descending steep hills. Steve. |

I run a g16b, aw4, Vit transfer, 1L transfer, 4.6 diffs and 33's I find this to be quite satisfactory or in laymans terms 'FUCKING AWESOME'. Sure it's a bit more work but nothing good comes easily and it seems you're not afraid to get your hands dirty so go for it. Of corse if you want it to be super awesome you could always put some speed holes in it and paint it garden shed green.

kenn, I'm curious as to how much you would actually use just the low range of the vit case which from what ive worked out is about 2.8:1 with the 1L case in high range. With an auto it doesnt seem like it would be all that useful give than low-low range is about 4.5:1. I currently have 5.14:1 transfer gears and I pretty much have 10 different forward gears (ie low 5th is slightly lower than 1st high) which gives a good spread by itself without a 2nd case. I understand its a bit of work to build but the effort vs return is kinda low if its not used often in all the ranges given and off the shelf gearset it relatively cheap and still allows a rear driveshaft thats a decent length. |

Putting the vitara transfer ahead of the sierra transfer keeps the SWB tailshaft a satisfactory length. |

I'm assuming a SWB sierra tailshaft will be slightly longer.

kenns is in an LJ though which standard are a fair bit shorter WB. im not 100% sure what Kenns WB is however. |

I understand that, I've just had a look factory wheelbase of a sierra is 4" longer than an lj80, I thought it was less than that. I'm more interested to see how often kenn uses just the low range of the vit case, Ive always found only having 2 ranges to choose from fine. A 2.8:1 low range might be pretty handy for sand though which I haven't really driven on. |

i've got duals in my build and will be looking at 1.58 2.84 4.16 7.48 im running 4.1 transfer gears in the sierra case. 4.6 diff gears and either 35s or 37s i have 119:1 in my LJ50 and would actually like slightly lower first gear if i could get it. alot depends what you will be driving on terrain wise. |

In the ten years mine has been in I haven't touched it. I lie......I have changed the oils. Kenns is probably the better setup as his is air operated.....just turn a switch. It also gives us the ability to have low range two wheel drive without messing with the Sierra case. We run them because its just like giving someone a holesaw and drill.......because we can. |

Speaking of tail shafts with dual cases my shaft looks like it will be around 750mm long and about 150mm offset because of the vit diff and the offset sierra output will this work or will joe need to make me a offset vit diff |
