| Post subject: | 15 inch rims on GV |
Hello Auszookers from the holy land. After a few years with a coily SJ and a LWB SJ I've decided to raplace it with a 1998 5 doors, 2000cc, GV. The car was bought with 2.5 inch Calmini lift kit, rear 1512 Lockright, wheel spacers and a full armor. I've replaced the shocks to a 4 Koni heavy duty shocks and that's about it. The car runs great and the only problem is the tire size. In Israel the GV comes with tire size 235/60/16 and there are no MT tires in this size and after 5 years of driving in the SJ with MT tires the Yokohoma AT is just isn't enough. Some people install 235/70/16 tires but the only MT in this size is BF that are extremely expensive here. Did anybody try to install 15 inch rims on his GV? I want to put 235/75/15, this tires are common here and you can get a a lot of MT tires on this size. |

15" rims are too small to fit over the calipers without modification. This shows roughly how much needs to come off. Is buying from somewhere like tirerack an option? |

Can't fit 15s on a LWB GV. You can fit SOME 16" aftermarket rims with some caliper grinding. |

Are you sure? I thought depending on wheel spacer width and wheels some 15s would fit with grinding. |

Ohhh, I think you can fit 15s if you run 1" wheel spacers... Not 100% sure if huxlee was successful with it. He said he can't remember but he thinks he couldn't fit them. |

I thought the thread I read about successfully fitting 15s was on here, but I can't find it now. |

15's will fit the SWB 1.6 GV's but that's it without mods. Some have made them fit the LWB by grinding the back of the calliper but this is not recommended. Its all about the shape of the inside of the rim. A 25mm spacer may help but then you have the issue of the tyre eating the guard when flexed up and at full lock. . |

Go to the tyre shop and ask if you can test fit 15s in whatever rims you want. You'll only need to test one on the front, they 100% fit on the rear |

Well... I tried to install 15 inch rims from friend. I'll try a different kind from another friend but if that won't work I'll try to start think outside the box. |

Ok... So I've tried 2 kinds of rims: 1. An old CJ rim 2. SJ410 rim. Both rims touched the caliper on the SJ rim I even tried to add a small spacer on addition the 1 inch spacer I already have. Did anyone try to run 15 inch rims with a 2 inch spacer? I saw that in the USA the Chevy Tracker (the same car as GV) run on 15 inch rims. Did anyoner tried to replace the caliper to a Tracker model or a SWB GV? |

2in Spacer! I don't think many people would be happy with that, let alone that law...Breaks are pretty important so don't be messing with smaller calipers just to fit different rims. I may have missed something but why do you have to run 15s? the 16s have some pretty decent sizes available and guards can be chopped fairly easily. You already have the 1in spacer so you won't be rubbing on the chassis or cross member with larger tyre just the rear guard will need chopping if you go wide. |

^^ Yeah you missed something. But I concur on the spacers and smaller brakes. OP, did you look into the 225/75r16s or ordering from tirerack? |

downgrading brakes seems like a dumb idea just to fit a 15" rim... i'd be importing tyres from the tirerack |

+1 on 225/75 or 245/75 or 255/70 or 215/80 all around the 30in mark May not even need the spacers if you got 245s |

I can't import tires to Israel. MT tires for 16 inch wheels are rear here can't seem to fine a good solution. I was asking about smaller calipers cuase the Chevy Tracker comes with 235/75/15 as a standard tire. 245/255 are to big to run without the 4.24 transfer kit for my opinion. |
