Ok,..here is a sticky one for the tech guys here.

When I start my Sierra, with the gearbox in neutral, and the clutch out, the vehicle always tries to move forward as I hit the strter, and it doesn't want to run. If I leave the box in neutral and push the clutch in, no problem, but once it starts to run, if I let the clutch out it will try again to move forward, and sometimes enough to stall the engine.

WTF!! How is this happening? Is the clutch sticking and need adjustment, or is there some alien force that just doesn't want to see me wheeling up the big hills in my little machine?

Thanks,
Ted.

sounds like the clutch isn't releasing fully... there are a few good threads on here about how to adjust the clutch properly.

the clutch friction disc is dragging on the flywheel (not moving freely on the spline) , or your clutch pressure plate is worn out ...

He's in neutral though. No matter what you do with the clutch, the car shouldn't move.

It's a gearbox issue. I'd pull the stick/housing out and make sure it's actually selecting neutral properly.

Thats what I would have thought Sideways. A mate of mine suggested the clutch wasn't releasing fully, though I couldn't see how that was happening. I have just ordered a new bottom bush for the gear shifter off Bruce on here, as the original bush is missing altogether. It does jump out of gear now and again too. I was thinking that maybe the end of the shifter was worn, or the fact that there isn't a bush at all may be letting things move a little.

I suppose I will put the new bush in and see what happens.

Its always a good idea to ask you more learned guys about these things as some of you may have struck the same thing before and know what the problem is straight away.

Cheers,
Ted.
