How to tell if your lj is a stockman. I have a lj81 stockman I think? Its a 1980 model. When I got it it had half of a stockman sticker on it so assume it is. I need to do the unis on the front drive shaft for roadworthy and the unis are the press in type which I was led to believe that stockmans had the circlip type. I know that it is possible that the drive shaft has been swapped, but the rear driveshaft is the press in type also. What other tell tale signs are there without pulling it apart. Can you tell from chassis no. What are my options with the driveshaft, I dont know if they will pass it if I try press out the unis and re fit and punch them. I assume that the stockman shafts are hard to come by? Anyone have one in melbourne area? The biggest pain is that they have given me 7 days on the roadie to get it sorted. Are there any sierra shafts that fit?

Stockmans have stockman written on the complliance plate. The chassis number is on the drivers side chassis rail right at the front above the steering pivot. Make sure the number matches with the plate. The easy way to tell if its a stockman is the grill. Google ljs. The one with the low down lights that are further apart are stockman. The narrow grill is non stockman

Yes I believe the press in unis are non stockman. You can buy the unis and just tack weld them in place.

Stockmans have a radio, a single electric windscreen washer, a header box with a flap on each side side, the tap for the heater is inside the car, an ash tray between the key on the steering column. Mechanically they have different brakes and 1l style unis. There's some other differences, nothing major though.

The big cosmetic difference is of course the different grill with the lights mounted low down.

1980 would be a Stockman anyway.

As long as the chassis matches the body

I will check out chassis no to body in the morning. The body matches what sideways has said radio heater stockman grill etc. No ashtray oh well non smoker. Cant imagine smoking in there, not much air space as it is. Unsure about tacking the unis in. I dont have too much problem with it but the roadworthy guy may.

Ok turns out it is a stockman. Body plate says stockman and body matches chassis. Why the drive shafts have been changed, who knows?
