Hi all i have access to a 14 grand FLIR camera tomorrow. is there anything anyone would like a photo of? lets keep it g rated BTW standard exhaust manifold? intake? is there anything that will be useful to anyone on a m13A? this is what can be expected as a result, but less car related...

i can do 15 k of a standard driveline siting in 4th after a drive to work towing my boat. that should cover it

do a front and a rear tyre before and after travel on a highway - front and side view =) you gotta point it at yourself too.. so get a shot when rested, then go for a run/do star jumps etc and get sweaty then take another pic! If you know anyone that's pregnant, that'd be pretty interesting vs. someone who isnt. |

They are interesting to play with, but unless you are measuring something against a known range or a trying to diagnose a fault, it's all pretty meaningless. So you take it for a run and the rear diff is at 50degrees. That's awesome to know, but you can't do anything with that information unless it's used in comparison to something Steve. |

couls be interesting for before and afters with headders, special gaskets, solong as someone else can get a camera themselves haha |

You can get huge errors with those. At work we use a thermocouple of get a known temperature and then post process the emissivity to match the calibration point - of course everything is painted matt first. It is interesting though to wave it across an object and see how the temperature changes as it picks up reflections and radiation from other sources, a clean engine bay, for example, is a terrible place to use a thermal imager as you get a lot of reflections and big differences in emissivity. |

Thermal imagers are good for scanning something and picking up hot spots relative to other similar materials in the frame, but they are not good for absolute readings unless they are either thermocouple calibrated to the particular material you are viewing, or the emissivity of the material is known. They are fun to play with though
