Hi, I have a 95 vitara soft top Was looking for a cheap way to lock both diffs as I found It really needs it I was thinking a mini spool for the front (but was told there was not enough room and welding was the only option) and a lock right auto locker in the back Does anyone have any useful info that could help? And Are the front and rear both 26 spline? Cheers Steve

Spool the back lockright the front U have 22 spline in ur front |

you'll want a GV steel diff for the front if you're going to lock it & that will need to be built up using the 5.12 R&P... it's not really a cheap & easy process. being a 95 you might have the 26 spline front end, if not it's a 22 spline & will have a 12 bolt rear end, what shape dashboard does it have? |

I have a 1510 front and rear I'm mine U need Sierra hemisphere and side gears And 26 spline cv to do it |

Cheers for the replies, might go for the lock right on the rear and weld the front, just gotta remember to unlock the hubs on the road. Found the right lock right on this page http://www.lowrangeoffroad.com/index.ph ... ckers.html This site is pretty sweet, postage is a killer for anything big but, do we have anything similar operating in Australia ? |

postage from lowrange should only be about $65 for on lockright. you will pay way more than that for anything in Aus |

In fact, you'll be so over the welded front in about 6 months you'll be poking for a proper locker of ANY description. Driving on the road isn't the issue. Fast dirt? You'll need to unlock a hub or two. Want to turn around on a tight track? Unlock a hub. Getting out 565946573 times every trip to lock and unlock hubs is only part of the problem. Then you have to deal with massive driveline bind all the time. With a locker, if you back off an obstacle, you release the load on the locker. Not with a welded front. You're binding the CV's up regardless of whether you are getting any benefit from the added traction. If you go 26 spline front and steel third/housing, you might be able to hold the front together with a welded front, but you'll still have to be observant of the CV's, so for you, it's not a cheap option - you have to drop $400+ on the front end to have enough strength to consider one. Welded front diffs suck. They suck in any car in any application, but they suck even more in an IFS car with a weak front end and limited capability anyway. Busting parts due to a welded diff in a sierra that's driving insane terrain might be almost OK. Busting parts due to a welded diff in a vitara is just dumb. Apart from that, Vitaras barely ever lift front wheels anyway, so both front wheels generally have pretty good traction. Steve. |

I'm running a spooled rear and autolocker in a steel diff up front. Can't be beat that's for sure. The auto in the front can be painful at times of turning. My crawler gears make for some huge driveline wind up also. I could only imagine how shithouse a welded front would be! Don't do it. I'm gonna bet you will want it gone the first outing you have! That's if your cvs haven't exploded before then. |

If your going for the lockrights then get the sierra ones. 1510 in the front as it is not as harsh and will operate smoother than one that comes with the couplers. Id go the same in the back too. Down side is you end up with some slack in the driveline. |

Spool/weld rear and auto lock the rear. Welded/spool front is teh ghey. |

Down side is you end up with some slack in the driveline. i have the 1510 in the back of mine i run it with the standard vitara side gears does have a little bit of driveline slack. i find it pretty driveable it doesn't really bother me at all i even taught my wife to drive it and she is ok with it. i think shipping only ended up being about $20 for the auto locker but that was about 2 years ago. |
