Have a high pitch noise from bellhousing, symtoms are

Noise more noticable at idle
Noise changes with clutch pedal pressed in and out
Not so loud with pedal out
Very loud with pedal in
Noise comes and goes

Had a stethiscope put over the engine bay and bellhousing has a dry bearing sound.

1.3 5 speed manual, clutch doesnt slip. New clutch kit two years ago. Car was in a mud hole for 10 mins last trip out.

When idle and clutch out you can also get rid of the noise my revving the engine, but ut comes straight back.

Thrust, throwout or imput bearing?

+1 throwout bearing. If it were the input bearing shaft or spiggot bearing, pressing the clutch would probably make it better, not worse.
If you have use of a borescope (camera) you can take a look at the bearing (without the engine running!) if you think it has got mud in there you can try flushing in thru the fork hole, but if it has been making noise for a while now, I would be changing it.... or at least get a new bearing and run the old one it til it starts sounding really bad. Trouble is it will prolly fail at the worst possible moment

Just as a trial, take the hose off the back of the tappet cover, see if that makes any difference, takes all of 1sec.

I had this, at idle, made a horrific noise, had the gearbox in and out 4 times, replaced everything, yet still a horrid squel like a dry bearing, but it wasn't.

The hose that ran from the back of the tappet cover, via the inlet manifold, to the air filter was at fault, and the idle vacum was causing a suction so great that the rear engine seal was sucking in air, damed if it didn't sound like a seized or dry bearing, thrust or spigot, out of the bellhousing she screamed.

So much drama, such a little tiny fix.

except it changed when you move the clutch in and out.

As did mine.

That was what tricked me and the mechanic, foot on and off clutch, sound/pitch changed.

I was the throw out.

Caused buy the bellhousing bottom drain hole clogged with mud. Found a hand full of dirt in the bell housing and the same again in the clutch. All sorted now. Cheers

Yeah, mines the same.... last owner must have been in deep and the rubber clutch fork condom was/is broken

It is getting better actualy.... wont fix wot aint broke..... too busy
