I was lying under the zook on the weekend contemplating several things. One of which was where to mount the torque rod that will stop the diff rotating forward under torque. There is a crossmember behind the transfer case, the one that has 4 body mounts in it. That's in a reasonably convenient location, but i'm a bit sceptical as to whether it's going to be rigid enough for mounting the torque rod. Has anyone done something similar with success? |

if you stop reversing everywhere you wont have this problem |

I always do this. Im a day dreamer. Or i like piece and quiet from zee missus. It may need alittle reinforcing for stopping it from twisting. But could be a good place. Where did you place your sabwoofer. Is it saab swedish? |

I would have thought it would be rigid enough. Only one way to find out. Do it and keep and eye on it for cracking. PS I do the lying under the car thing. Once I was supposed to be heading out with the boys after doing a little work on my old lux. I woke up at 10pm underneath the lux, 500w work light keeping me warm. |

You said you want to stop the diff rotating FORWARDS which it will only do in reverse. Diff will rotate rearwards under normal forward acceleration. Technical point but Taff is correct. Jas. |

so where is the best spot for anti wrap bars |

I'm no suspension expert but I would think the torque bar should be the same length as the middle of the rear axle to the rear spring front mount. Using the same theory as a panhard rod running parallel to a drag link. Just my 2c Jas. |

Just a little revisit on this topic. I'd pretty much decided on the setup for this and I was doing a little googling and came across this:
Now my first impression was "WTF!?" but after looking at it I think it might actually work. I realise that one won't give you much uptravel but i'm talking about the concept rather than that particular implementation. Some more info here. Thoughts? |

Where does the diff get its forward/backward movement as the springs droop/compress in that setup? EDIT: Actually it would get it from the arc of the top arm. But if thats right you'd want to get your math spot on. If the horizontal length changes caused by the arc of that top arm dont match your diff movement as it compresses/droops it would actually force the diff to rotate. Thats how it looks in the little cloud above my head anyway |

Thats how it looks in the little cloud above my head anyway The idea is to make the rod (the bit the runs forward horizontally) similar length to the distance from your diff housing to the spring hanger (1/2 of leaf spring length). You're going to get a little bit of rotation of the housing in any case, the idea is to minimise it as much as possible. |

Actually I think being so high might actually help in that respect, as any amount of difference in the arc forcing the mount forward or back that far from the diff will translate to very little rotation forced on the diff, the same setup say 100mm off the top of the axle tube would be a lot worse |

Higher would be better, but clearance is an issue. It would be great until it punched a hole thru the floorpan |

oh didnt you know the cool thing to do is fit teh biggest bumpstops you can in, preferably so it actually lifts teh car up, uptravel is so 2005!!!!! |

I think there'd be a problem with that setup when the diff drops away, maybe when the far wheel drops away under flex, that antiwrap bar would rotate the diff housing forward? PS. the more i look at the worse it gets. THe pivot point shuould be the same as the spring/chassis mount point, not up in the air.. the links are too short etc.. |

if the drivers wheel were to drop away, the wheel will swing forward, and while the diff in theory will rotate around the front spring hanger I think an amount of it will be taken up along the leaf by it twisting a bit (which is why there is spring wrap to begin with) the diff centre should only drop half as much, assuming the passenger wheel doesnt tuck up any, depending on the length of the bar and more maths then I know (I come from a cave remember) that will pull the mount on teh top of the triangle bit forward but given teh length of it wont amount to any amount of degrees compared to if it was right on the housing but it shouldnt be a drama as the springs will allow it to twist the diff, if they didnt you wouldnt be having wrap problems anyway |

Royce, you realise this isn't going into a Mini right? |

I was thinking this morning that this is pretty much a fancy version of the torque rod on the front diff of my old second gen lux. The first thing the "pros" tell you to do is to take it off as it sacrifices flex........ |
