Post subject:  Online parts shopping advice
Hello to all members, this is my very first post on the forum so please be gentle with me :wink: I am an absolute noob to this forum and Suzuki's, have only ever owned major marque 4wd's, got a mechanical mind with absolutely zero Zook knowledge so any help would be great. My question is can anyone advise me of the best online shopping for parts on quality, pricing, shipping, aftermarket service in particular for an SJ70. Considering I live on Christmas Island freight cost is a killer so if anyone could advise of the cheapest way to transport parts I would be extremely greatful.

Thanks guys appreciate the heads up, seems like a unnanimous vote for 4wd products, cheers. The second part of my question is, I know the little trooper requires a new set of rings, so with having to do them and having very limited knowledge on the service history of the vehicle, while i have the motor in pieces what are some of the other little hints for what i should be looking at repairing/replacing? I return home to Nth Qld in just over a month so would like to have a shopping list prepared and be able to bring parts back with me after my holiday, any tips would be terrific.

Here's 4WD_Products parts/price list for the SJ70. It's a bit old so I'd ask for a current one instead of taking this one as gospel, it still gives you an idea of their range and prices though. :)

I've bought tons of stuff through them and only had one issue where they sent me the wrong part, Sierra ignition leads for my LJ because "he thought they would fit". Still, not a bad run at all.

Hit them up on facebook, they've got a website too.

I wouldn't say their stuff is great quality, but it's certainly cheap. Quality parts are really hard to find for Suzukis and atrociously expensive when you do find them.

Fwiw everything I've bought from Suzistore has been Maruti. Not exactly "genuine Suzuki" like they claim. Maruti parts are shithouse quality, on par with unbranded cheap stuff.

the "genuine" tail lights I got from 4wd products are Maruti parts but I didn't care, still thought it was funny though.. I guess you could class them as "genuine".

I buy from him as much as possible. probably done 20 or so separate orders over the years from him for various items. only ever had one faulty product and a replacement was sent straight out the next day. top bloke. dunno if he has a separate shop or what not, but i just use his ebay store:

I have also done afew orders with them. Only issue ive had was a steering shaft uni which someone forgot to tap a thread in both mounting holes lol. And also its flogged out again but I blame anothrr product for that.

I'll recommend Suzistore as well.

I've bought a few things from 4wd_products and suzistore. Both are good to deal with.

Also regarding Maruti parts, I bought 4 hoses and a seal from Suzistore this week - the only maruti part I got was a lower radiator hose and the price was on par with any generic brand at supercrap or repco. I'd definitely rather maruti instead of an unknown brand.

Some time back I bought a filter kit for a coily. Turns out the fuel filter supplied was to suit an EFI Baleno. It is similar but not a direct replacement for the coily one as the outlet is rotated 180 degrees from the direction it is supposed to fit and the metal case is notched to only fit preoperly one way around. All the filters supplied were generic brands. I think the oil filter was valvoline brand although I can't remember. As an example suzistore only stocks genuine Suzuki oil filters.

Horses for courses though - if you want cheap go to 4wd_products and they will supply cheap parts with fast shipping and good customer service.

If you want genuine or specific name brands, shop somewhere like Suzistore and you will also get fast shipping and good customer service.

I use 4wdproducts for everything even got the engine rebuild kit off him... Good price and service can't fault anything I've bought for the price ya pay you can't really... Always ask what he has in brand wise he has a few different ones..... If your pulling out your motor to do rings may as well do the whole lot new bearings and all that makes it easier to know what's been done for peace of mind....

Thanks Reubs and Daves4wd, some handy info and good advice there guys, cheers for that. Daves4wd, I had been thinking exactly down those lines and good to hear some input that supports it. When you purchased your engine rebuild kit, was it supplied with everything you required, or did you still need to purchase any little extra's.

Also did you require any specialist tools to carry out the works. Given my location (Christmas Island) it is ridiculously hard to source anything of use due to it's remoteness, so forwarned is forarmed for me.

A new guy started working with me a couple of weeks ago, turns out he used to own this vehicle and actually had the head shaved a couple of years ago so at least i know that is done, and it's a plus. Made friends with a local contractor and now have full access to his workshop stocked with just about everything you can imagine tooling wise so it's a big benefit as well.

Please keep the input coming guys, you have no idea just how valuable even the smallest bit of info is for me. Something else to consider here is that I live a hell of alot closer to Indonesia than mainland Australia, so is it worth exploring the Indo market or have other forum users had any negative experiences with this in the past?

Yeah I needed to get a timing kit, water pump,a oring for the pipe behind the water pump and that was about it.... You'll need to muesure the bor bores and crank to onow what size to order.... And what engine it is ie g13a/b/ba..... Get they was checked for cracks and to see of it's flat..... I didn't rebuild it I had a mate do it for me I know you'll need a piston ring compressor, feeler gage a tourqe wrench and a few other bits.... Hope this helps

Thanks again Daves4wd, sounds pretty standard, but will pay attention to your suggestions. I will have to study the motor specs and schematics to make sure i cover all bases, before returning home. Hopefully i can find some internal tele gauges to get my bore measurements before leaving the island. Hhmmm interesting few weeks ahead me thinks !!!
