| Post subject: | F10a Start up trouble |
hi all I just bought a sierra ute ( first Suzuki by the way ) for a shooting bus and I am having trouble getting it running, I think it was built in 83, its a sj40t with a f10a, now I drained the fuel tank and put new fuel in, I put a new fuel filter and replaced the inlet and outlet hose off the fuel pump as they were cracked, I checked the pump and its working, I gave the spark plugs a quick clean, the car will start and idle but will only run for around three seconds before it shuts off and if you touch the throttle it dies, it will rev higher when the choke on when you hit the key but wont run as long, I pulled the carby off and all it says is aisan, i have never touched carbys before but it would need a kit through it. any help would be greatly appreciated, cheers kyle |

Is there a mesurment for where it should be sitting? It did have plenty off fuel in bowl though, roughly three quarters to the top. I still don't know how to tell what model carberetor it is. |

I've never played with carby's before but it did have plenty off fuel in the bowl, the thing that has me stuffed is it just shuts off not actually on off then dies like a normal engine starving for fuel. |

Check the strainer under the needle and seat. Mine was very dirty and was doing the same thing. |

Make sure if it has a fuel cut off solenoid on the carby, that it is working properly. I had an 87 barina that wouldnt idle, but would run if the throttle was slightly open, turned out to be a micro switch under the throttle pedal that was supposed to tell the solenoid on the carby to stay open to idle. The solenoid stopped the fuel flow on back off, over run. Just thinking yours is of similar age and might have similar problem? check any wires connected to carby are clean and making good contact, check fuses and any earhs under bonnet are good.Check points, leads and clean under dizzy cap... look for cracks in cap. |

F8a head fits. It's practically identical aside from the oil seal housing on the front. You'l need to use the F8a rear timing belt cover too. |

Old fuel? It goes off quick these days .... short 'shelf life' so to speak |
