I have a metallic sounding rattle coming from underneath my sierra. A while ago, the welded tab (for the hanger) on the tail pipe end on my exhaust broke, it made a horrific noise with the tail pipe vibrating against my tow bar. When a similar noise started again yesterday, I thought that the weld may have started to fatigue and was starting to fail again. I checked the weld and it looks fine. So then I start to think could the muffler be on its way out? The only thing is the rattle only seems evident at low speed and seems to disappear when cruising. It also doesn't seem to do it when the cars idling. I had to jump start a friends car at training tonight, and when I was revving the engine with the throttle linkage at the carby. I could not hear any rattle/vibration.
Any suggestion as to other possibilities. I have it booked it for a new muffler tomorrow morning and don't want to spend money on a new one if I don't need to.

Had another suss at it this am. I'm more confident that it was the muffler. Exhaust fitter just confirmed my suspicion and the muffler has had its day.
