So, i've used the search and still can't get the answer I'm looking for. Don't really know what to search for

I've got a 99GV V6 Manual,
I believe that the stock gearing is 4.3 (how do I find this out? Preferably with out taking out the diff as I would like to have the new gear on hand when I do)

There are
4.3, 4.6? and 5.12 gears available?

as I've increased the stock tyre size I have noticed a decrease/more laboured acceleration and reduction of power in higher gears (mostly 5th and up hills) I'm looking to fix this issue by moving to a higher diff ratio.
so going to 235/70R16's would the 4.6 or 4.83 or whatever it is be enough to return to the stock feel of the car or should i move to 5.12's

and lastly
where do I buy these gears from? I've looked at FTS, LROR, Calmini, Bits4vits etc and can't seem to find any
are any available brand new or are they all from wreckers? if wreckers what model and year suzuki's are they out of.

OK so I just found the diff gear thread in good tech the SQ625 auto v6 Gv has the 4.875 ratio's. Is the front steel not alloy and can it be directly swapped into the v6 manual steel diff?

There is a 4.8 available. The gearsets are out of various models of Vitaras.
I thought you could get 5.38 Vitara gears from LROR. Seems you cant, disappointingly.

I would use stock suzuki gears, and buy them from wreckers etc.
The rear you can remove and install yourself

The front will need to be setup correctly.

As per ratio
5.12 = (5.12-4.3)/4.3 = 19%
4.875 = (4.875-4.3)/4.3 = 13.3%
4.625 = (4.625-4.3)/4.3 =7.5%

Work out your tyre size increase, and correct as best you can

could you elaborate more on what is required to setup the front correctly? Can the R+P bolt straight into the air actu front diff? or do I need to source a complete vit one?

Have asked the same kind of question in the past.
Am in the same boat as you, manual SQ625 with bigger tyres (mine are 245/75R16) - an increase of 11%. In my case the 4.8 would be great, but some members have pointed out the benefits of the 5.12 for off-roading.

At some stage I'll be chasing the gears too, maybe even the full diffs. So far I've come to the following

5.12 -> old vit (need to find which one precisely), needs to be fitted in your existing diffs
4.8 -> from a SQ625 AUTO. get the gears swapped OR swap the diffs, target a recent zook to make sure the diff is steel.

Some argue 5.12 is overkill, some plead the opposite. Up to you to decide

A ring and pinion from the front of any gv or vit will bolt into the steel housing of yours, with the air actuated diff if you wished to keep it.

The trial and error method
To set it up requires setting the new pinion into the housing and assembling most of the diff, then checking how the pinion depth is to determine which shims are needed on the pinion.


Unless you have the correct tools, knowledge and patience (especially as if you get it wrong, you will have to do it again), its best for most people to drop it off to a diff specialist.

I assume this does not include an XL7?
Also do the XL7 Mags fit the standard SQ625?
