You need a steel diff out of a manual GV or 03+ auto i believe. And yes all your diff center, cvs and axle will fit. You'll just need to block off where the actuator pipe went to.

Ratios here

you want to use the GV center and housing. everything will swap over, all you need is a 5.12:1 C&P and a GV diff housing and center.

also what is the standard ratio in a 95 2.0L v6 4door estate wagon? they are 4.6?
i looked under my diff again in the daylight and the front housing is ok its just the third member that exploded
so if i can scrounge up 1 of them that will keep me out of trouble for the time being :|

have a read in here, check out some of the links. viewtopic.php?f=5&t=38607&hilit=steel+GV+diff+swap

No you dont use ur third (its broken) and yes you can run the ally housing but its not worth the risk, if your gears are ok then use them and thats all you will use. Im not 100% sure of what the diff ratio yours come with but either 4.6 or 4.8.

there is website that you type what you need into and it send out an email to ALL wreckers. ill try find it but otherwise get ringing.

cheers mate i think my gears will be fine as i was not moving when it broke.
i wont use the alloy housing but i am having trouble finding a steel one so thought id just replace my third with a stock untill i find a steel housing and then put 5.1's in it then (did that make any sense? i dont explain myself well)

oh ok, yeah that makes sense. but unless its already set up with 5.12's then your doubling your work. But if you find a steel third only without the housing, that can be run. Just have to be cautious.

Why would he want to use the GV center? It won't work...

What you'll want to do is get the GV steel diff, strip the R&P and center out, put your vitara center in along with your new 5.12 R&P.

so your saying to use his ally centre (which is actually broken) in the gv steel housing?? hmmm sounds great! would u like me to take a pic of the GRAND VITARA CENTRE AND HOUSING? that is fitted to MY VITARA

if he gets the correct yr model it will be EXACTLY the same besides what its made out of and the internals (it has vacuum stuff inside)

possibly.
This is what you need, steel housing with the carrier/center or third member bolted to it.

I'll just outline the individual parts so it's clear what we are talking about.

THIS is a diff centre:

THIS is a carrier:

This is a gear set

The whole lot together is generally called a "third member" (unless you are royce, I have no idea what he calls it :D) Yes, third member is an American term but at least it isn't a double up calling an assembly by the name of an individual component.

So this is a third member

Steve.

ok so going by that, you need the housing and the carrier

Nup - jacks, spanners, socket set, allen keys, circlip pliers, maybe a hammer/pry bar/other persuading device... nothing too exotic.
