yes i would prefer not modding the sump but also i have never really done anything like this before and i think finding out how to measure this would be a good thing to learn for engine conversions in the future

Hi everyone i urgently need to know if the only reason you change the sump on a Vitara G16B to the G13B sump is for clearance of cross member?? Or Is there another reason?!?!?!? |

if you had a 4" lift with 40mm maybe 50mm spring spacers could this avoid the diff hitting the sump? how can i measure this?? because i have been looking at the gap between my diff and the sump it has a bit of space but surely if you can measure the length of the smaller (passenger side) spring at full compression + length of spring spacer could you bypass the diff hitting the sump?? (yes i know full spring compression will damage the spring) but could you just measure the width of your spring then times the width x amount of loops on the spring to find out what the width is at full compression so in a worse case scenario and your spring did hit full compression the sump would't hit the diff. |

Sorry, but why are you opposed to sump swapping? do you want to avoid modding the oil pickup? |

Putting a huge lift in to avoid hitting the sump is silly and relying on spring bind to stop uptravel is also silly. Just swap the sumps over and mod the pick up. It's easy enough to do and theres lots of info on how to do it |

Modifying the sump is very easy. The last jimny I did, I didnt even need to modify the sump. In the conversion there's a fair few fiddly mods to do, but in general its pretty easy. The oil pick up is fairly easy, if you arent sure, you can get someone local to make it for you. There may even be people who could do it for your from interstate. If you add bumpstop spacers (to avoid springs being fully compressed), yes you can create more space underneath. A 50mm bumpstop spacer, will give 50mm space for the sump. But 4" of lift, is imo lots of extra spring lift, will throw the front geometry out a fair bit, and will need adjustable panhard and castor correction. 4" of spring lift and coil spacers, may make it very rolly in the rear end too, requiring a swaybar. Honestly, if you are lifting it to run a lower sump, its a pretty silly reason to lift it. Both in terms of economics and physics. |

i already had the lift before my old engine went pop it is the full ORA 4" lift kit soo i have the bigger radius arms and set to the right angle and adjustable panhard rods. I just dont trust any mechanic's or boilermakers around my town everyone is super dodge and will charge $$$$$ for the smallest jobs

If the motor has a crank angle sensor, and the jimny doesnt, its pretty easy to make a little plug, and use an unmodified jimny sump. I welded a small bit of 18mm rod to a large thin washer. The sump holds it in place via the large thin washer. I applied some gasket sealant to the rod and washer, and sump when fitting. Beats cutting and shutting the sump, when its not really needed. And means the sump will still fit a normal g16 or other g13 later |

Its a bit tricky to make and ship, as different g16 motors have the support bolt hole at a slightly different positon and/or different height etc. |

They can make the oil pickup just using a g13 oil pick up and the new g16 motor. It may be easier for you if you buy a jimny/g13 sump, and oil pick. That way someone can mod the sump (if needed) and oil pick up, and you can install the engine when it suits you. |
