Hi People, Been thinking a bit about my 07 trekker recently and wondering if there is a way to install the traction control unit in the car. I've got the 2.7 manual and from what I've been reading, the 07's never come out with a traction control, but the later models did. If the TC uses the same pump and wiring as the abs system, what controls the TC? and can this be installed within an older car. It a matter of installing the ECU out of a 2.7 newer car with TC and installing the button which may already be wired in place, just need the button itself, i could install TC in my car. I know it just sounds all too simple, so what am i missing????????? Any thoughts. Thanks in advance Nelly |

Are you sure you want it? It's a bit of a double edged sword - it's pretty effective in an auto car, although there tends to be quite a bit of wheelspin whilst it's sorting out what to do, but in a manual it's a complete nightmare at low speeds as the brake grabbing stalls the motor out. We have both 3.2 auto and 2.4 manual NGV's in the club with TC and the manual is really, really hard to drive off road. Perhaps Fordem can help with ECU compatibility, but I'd be very suspicious if you could just drop in a later ECU and the TC would magically work. Things are almost never that easy. I imagine the traction control is also tied to stability control, which requires yaw sensors, steering wheel position sensing etc IMHO. Steve. |

I have found the traction control in our gv3 2.4 manual to be great on the rocks and ruts but it does try and kill you in fast paced sand and gravel, if i had a choice i would remove it purley because i find it detracts from an honest feel of the car offroad if that makes sense. |

Well the reason i was thinking of it was I recently went for a wheel and was really surprised at how easy it was for us to get hung up. The car has a 40mm lift, 245-70r16 AT's which i let down to 20psi and as soon as we hit what i would consider easy terrain with a bit of undulation corner to corner, we stopped. We were on loose gravel and as soon as one wheel lost traction, either a rear or front would spin and that's it. I have since been told but am yet to try out using a little brake, or hand brake to help over come this, and was also told to deflate the tires further (which i wasnt keen to do as i dont have onboard air...yet), but i was thinking that if the ESP was an optional extra for the car, it could be installed to help limit the amount of wheel spin and be able to crawl a little further along the track. I've taken it into the dunes a few times already and along some pretty decent tracks between Esperence and Augusta and found it did what we needed as long as the wheels had good traction on all corners. I've been reading on here about the lockers that piranha do for the NGV, anybody have one??/ |

I run 245/75/16 bighorns with zero rubbage and dobinson lift. Sure the traction control gets you a bit further but the susp has zero flex, seriously less than a commodore. Im not sure on the aftermarket offering lockers of any sort. If i actually drove mine regularly offroad i may consider a rear diff swap and locker from an earlier gv if possible ? |

it would be interesting to see what the inside of the NGV diff looks like. It may even be possible to fit an Air locker or even a Lockright/Spartin. I'd love to have a good look to see what will fit. |

No I dont, would be great though. In saying that I snapped a cv without one though the bigger tyres definitely helped that |
