Here in Dubai we still have the jimney for the only delelopments over the years is a slightly different front grille and bonnet scoop. What Suzuki need to do it sell it with the m18 standard I am sure they still have the tooling for the engine and not much needs to be changed.

I'd agree Mike. Suzuki don't sell enough of them to do anything other than spend the minimum $$.

No manufacturer will increase power 50% and torque 60% and retain the same driveline.

The gearbox, transfer case, and diffs aren't intended for that much power or torque. Neither is the vehicle's dynamics. Breakage and expensive warranty repair would become common. Car manufacturers are generally risk averse (especially suzuki, who are a very conservative manufacturer) so there's abolsutely no chance of that much power in a Jimny as we know it.

I'd agree ZN - I think that would have been the better choice and would cost Suzuki almost nothing to engineer. I'm sure they have their reasons.

That said I am enjoying the 1.8, makes for a fun Jimny. I can feel a lot more vibration through the driveline during heavy acceleration though.

that would be great im even thinking of getting the jimny cut in to a tray back down the line hopefully end of next year

There was a guy doing ute chops to Jimnys in Queensland a few years ago, he was extending the chassis too. Haven't seen anything for a while though.

If the chassis is being refabricated it wouldn't be much of a issue to change the cars GVM. Having said that I wouldn't be suprised if the new jimny is a rebadged SX4

Assuming chassis strength is the limiting factor, not wheel bearings, axle housings, spring mounts, brakes, abs and esp function at the new GVM had nothing to do with it.

Plenty of people happy with the old sierra tray backs.

I know of a fella that bought a whole heap of Marutis to transport dead animals he shot to his knacker plant, all he did was up rate the leaf springs.

He used larger 4x4s as well but for some tasks he preferred the Suzukis (for places the cruisers wouldn't go)

None of them broke and he still has and uses one.

Not all of us carry around anvils for a living. All it would need to do is carry around all my maintenance supplies, which are bulky and don't fit well in a small wagon, yet aren't all that heavy.

A Jimny LWB tray would not be that bad, it would be a reliable tray back for the same cost as a great wall, it would be off the ground a bit and be more rugged than say a commodore ute (which I use currently) and be almost as efficient (on a cheaper fuel) as the diesel utes.

To be honest it wouldn't even need power steer and I'd buy one.

Agreed, however the vitata did run v6 power and torque through a cheese alloy front diff..... I would hazard a guess that the jimney diffs are stronger. But yeah a 1.5 would also be a good choice. I also think the 1.3 is ideal in countries where you get taxed on hp and engine size. But for many countries the option of the 1.5 would be good

That iV-4 is a lot bigger than a Jimny and its a clutch plate (Haldex) type AWD so I wouldn't want to push that off-road on bigger tyres.
