Hi all, I think my carby is starting to play up as it is revving higher and on occasions when it is hot it stalls as you slow down. Does anyone have any ideas as to how much it costs to rebuild or get a reco one already done. It's on a 1.3ba sj80.

Mine was idling high as part of the linkage was binding.

Have you done all the other stuff on the fuel system?

$50 and half a day to rebuild a carby, follow the manual and replace the bits that came in the kit. Did it the other month. Worth doing on so you know its done.

Petes80, I see you're in Brisbane... Northside Carbies at Geebung charged me $500.01 (yes - and one cent!) a few years back to overhaul a Sierra carb. I'm told that Carbtech at Redcliffe charge about $300. SuziAuto once did a partial teardown of a carby for me and just charged labour as part of other work done on the car and that was very cheap.

The second last carby rebuild cost me $66 for rebuild kit and a few hours of a mate's and my time.

The last carby teardown cost nothing as the gaskets were still good. It took about 45 minutes to remove the idle jet, clear it out and refit it.

I will be replacing the fuel filter before looking further into the carb build as when i use a fuel system cleaner it seems to work fine for a while.

I will look into carbtech @ redcliffe Reubs as thats not to far away from me, or i might just get a rebuild kit and a workshop manual and try it myself, as I have played around with a few carter thermoquads and 4bbl rochesters in my earlier years but that was over 20 years ago now

If you attempt it yourself don't forget to label the hoses you remove. I find a paint pen is great:)
