Post subject:  Gv 98-04 transfer differences?

Looking for transfer gears for my 04 GV but the kits say they only fit up to 02. Are there any differences in the t case gears after 02 or is it just cal covering their ass again like their suspension kits? Or does any one know any gears to fit the GV t case?
Kit in question

Not sure if calmini are the same but I was told by trail gear that their reduction gears are only to suit the 4 cylinders not the v6. This doesn't necessarily mean that the transfers are any different, just that they haven't looked yet.

I think in the US they had the vitara right through to 2002 along side the GV, but they are different vehicles. I have a transfer from each and will be pulling them down to see if they are the same or if they can be adapted. I believe that the manual and auto transfers are different in the GV

Yea cal say in the description that they fit the gvs so not sure on that. Do you have an 04 GV case of just an early vit and early gv to compare. The ktis fit in both man and auto so it must be a universal gear set to reduce the input shaft or something i have no idea.

Early GV and vit. No idea on the later models.

I've sent them an email, will reply here if I get a response.

Calmini replied and said it will not suit a V6 transfer

I searched for it but couldn't find any reference to anyone fitting transfer gears in them which is why I thought I'd try to adapt the vit transfer. I've read now that even the manuals are very different so that may not be possible either

Bugga I can't be bothered trying to screw around with a new t case so ill have to wait for someone to come up with something. But for you a vit case should work.

If you're pulling out your transfer to put gears in it it's just as easy to adapt up another one as it is to put yours back in if there is a kit for it. Just means you have a couple more bits to source.

Rikstr was selling a set of custom gears for a XL7 a while back not sure if they will fit or even if he still has them but it's worth a look

Fair enough. Link is here:

If the shaft was resplined that means that the XL-7 box had a larger output than the vitara one by the sounds of it. Meaning resplining or a custom output shaft would be required.

Auto should fit a vit tc but manual have different output spline I read on Zuki world.
A xl7 on 37 ran vit tc gears .

i've read that before, auto gv's only was my understanding & i'm certain the SV620 manual is a fair bit shorter than the SQ, not sure about the gearboxes in the SQ420 though?

I had a few t/cases here when I blew mine up

Mines a V6 manual and they gave me a V6 Auto one and there was a difference in the length of the input shaft.
As for ratio's the Man and Auto were the same high and low. Well the 2 cases I had were as I counted the turns in and out.

SE Vit t/case was different again. had a different spline.
