Hi I purchased an ironman 2" suspension kit for my 1999 GV, 5spd 2.5L LWB wagon.

The supplied kit contains front & rear springs, plus rear shocks and front struts.

The rear suspension supplied does not fit! the bore of the shock is much wider than the standard shock, which means it interfere's with the brake line, but also the bottom shock mount / frame touches the side of the shock- which will eventually wear through.

I took it into ironman (kewdale, WA), they had a look and told me that the shocks are their correct part for my car, bud they dont fit because they believe my car is an import or different to the others- esspecially as it is manual??? I told them no way is my car an import- i have the original papers and books from the dealership that sold the car here in Perth. They tried to fit two other type of shocks in it, none of which fit.

Can anyone shed any light on this issue?

Can anyone reccomend a rear shock that will fit and provide 40-50mm lift on standard?

those shocks look massive.

you need shock repositioners, available from bits4vits.

quite a few GV people are running a camira shock & i think built4thrashing is running a pajero shock.

I haven't heard of any issues with OME shocks not fitting. Agree the bore on these looks too big.

Can anyone provide a part number of camira / parjero etc shocks so that I can retro fit??? struggling to find anything at this point

called suzistore here in midland and they cant point me in any direction

I'm running camira wagon shocks in the back of mine with no problems just need to change the bottom sleave
I don't know the part numbers for them i just went into supercheap and ordered them in at $80 each i think


Oooooooooor i have a pair of new shock repositioners here that im not using that you are more then welcome to see if they will help with clearance


If they work you can have them for a carton of XXXX gold stubies not cans stubies

Just because the part is listed as fitting your vehicle is a lame excuse for the dealer to use. Have you tried calling Ironman directly and discussing the problem? They may have something else that will fit- or could at least give you a refund....

(I've had similar issues with Whiteline suspension parts listed to fit my Kizashi. Their rear swaybar didn't fit and neither did the front swaybar end links that were listed. At least they acknowledged their mistakes and fixed everything up quickly!)

I get the distinct impression some Aussie companies look at spec sheets for vehicle suspension components - eg. your case of shock length/ mount type - then simply list anything they've got matching those specs as fitting!

PS: The other thing is, they may have sent you an XL-7 spec rear shock? They're a different fitment.

Hi Murcod, sure is a lame excuse- I took the car to Ironman directly and they couldnt give me an answer or find a shock that fitted- they a few other shocks with no succes. Its not the shock for the XL7- funnily enough Ironman only have the one rear shock for all Vitaras & Grand Vitaras up to 2005!! shame one size does not fit all!!!!

Awesome. I don't imagine a SWB soft top requires different shock valving to an XL-7.

wonder what the ride quality will be like, although mine's not exactly limo smooth with the calmini kit, dobinson struts & commo shocks. i do find it a bit ridiculous that a company of Ironman's size don't take any of that into account... then there is the whole shock sizing & it must be a jap import thing.

They are very similar after all..... in name only!

Edit: Out of interest... from Redbook:
- a 2004 fully specced XL-7 weighs in at 1625kg kerb mass/ 2300kg gross vehicle mass
- a 2003 SQ416 3 Dr weighs in at 1210kg kerb mass/ 1750kg gross vehicle mass

That's why I spent the extra $$$ on Koni's. (But even they no longer list rears for XL-7's.)

Surely that 400kg+ has absolutely no effect on shock and spring function
