Was driving the Jimny at about 50 kphr on some average corra. and a terrible metallic grinding,screeching sound started.
Was in 4wd,so changed to 2wd ,didn't make any difference .stopped the car and turned ignition on and off.Went about 30m fine then started again.
Kept it in 2wd and continued to happen until hit flat ground then stopped,now when i engage 4wd it locks in but i get a constant click click sound from the front left hub or wheel,the right is fine.
Mainly does it on rough uneven ground,on dead level surface doesn't seen to happen,i suppose its something to do with the vacuum hubs but can anyone elaborate or make further suggestions.

If you know its coming from the front left i would just start pulling it apart.

or at least jack up the wheel, grab the top and bottom of the wheel and see if you can feel any major clearance.

Could be a callapsed wheel bearing or pinion bearing.

Jack the front left and see if your bearings are fucked. If they ar your wheel will have play in all directions.

Oah and first check thes no 8-10 mm rocks stuck between the stone deflector and the disk break

The front wheel bearings are pretty strong and they can stand a reasonable beating and this is a 2013 model car so I doubt this is a wheel bearing unless it is faulty. Sounds more like a hub issue. Also sounds a little like the problem Mirko is describing in the thread.

I agree with Jezza to look for a stone caught up near the disc. Also check the vacuum hoses.

Sounds just like another thread started recently. I think both are probably just the auto hub not quite engaging properly.

I'd suggest a good test to rule out the hubs as the problem would be to remove the auto hub and take it for a drive. If the noise is gone that's most likely the problem.

Years ago, when my black Jimny was fairly new, I had a scrapie grinding noise coming from the wheels. I pulled the hubs to no avail. Ended up being the chrome dress rings I had on the stock rims, as the tyre rolled the sidewall bulge at the bottom would cause the bead to contact the ring which would rotate causing it to rotate on the rim creating metallic grinding sound.

Lesson learned; look for simple shit first.

But, Zukenutter, was that grinding of yours persistant or just occasional?
If it was about chrome dress rings, I assume, the noise was present all the time.

Chrome rings was just an example of me (people) over complicating a diagnosis. Wasn't suggesting this was your problem.
