I have an SJ70 with the weapon G13a. Recently I have noticed when going for a fourbie the idle drops down low and barely idles. Runs rough like its over fueling. Usually it would do this if ive had too much fun in water. But yesterday I hadn't been through any. I pulled the plugs and found they were all sooty. (6 months old) cleaned out the dizzy and contacts to try that and still idled crap. Pulled the leads off one by one and didn't seem to make much difference to the idle of the engine as it was already low. All leads are sparking and after putting in new plugs it idled great. went out bush for an hour and found the idle playing up again, I generally just putt around in first and second gear. Plugs have fouled up. So its running rich all of a sudden. It took 5 turns in of the idle screw for the idle to even change and raise. The 02 screw I haven't touched, being tamper proof and the asshole position its in. drives fine on the hwy pulls to 100kmhr as normal. The motor and carb has been rebuilt in the last couple of years by the looks. Accelerator pump rubber shows signs of a slight weap. I have nfi about carbies. Only ever played with injected cars. |

just to bring this up again as the problem has developed some more pondering. I have the suzuki manual which I used to service the carby, put a gasket set through it, removed and cleaned everything and re-assembled. Driving it around for the past week its been mickey mouse apart from some minor idle adjustments for fine tuning. Checking the plugs a lot this week, perfect mixture. Thought tonight I would take it through a track and try it out... lots of woops (up and downs) and some limestone rocks I had to bounce over. After this it started running rough again pretty much instantly. Coming home now its slowly clearing up. So it has something to do with bouncing. I assume the float has something to do with it. Plugs are now all fouled up again. I never touched the float level on the carb as I believed it was to spec "7mm" off the deck. Measuring by lifting the float and letting it drop to its level, then using feeler gauge at 7mm which i checked with my verniers. anyone had this issue? |

Sure the 4wding isnt picking up junk from the tank and putting it in to your carby? Id recomend a small fuel filter just before the carby to catch and bits that get past the main filter (Which they shouldnt but i got some in the secondary once i installed one....so who knows) |

I replaced the fuel sender about a month ago and the tank was pretty clean, not a single sign of rust. Just Shiny metal. I also put a new fuel filter and air filter prior to starting the car with the serviced carb. I hear what you're saying tho |

I pulled my carb appart twice after getting a bit of an intermitent stumble and found grit in the bowl (After replacing the rear fuel filter also). I dunno where its coming from, i suspect it might even be the rubber lines (they are original i reckon!). So i put new fuel line between the fuel pump and put the filter in. and touch wood it seems to have fixed it. (i havnet pulled the carby appart since) Assuming the carby needle and seat is in good condition, and the float is set correctly, there is not much to go wrong with the carby (assuming all the vac lines are connected correctly). But they will not tolerate any grit in the jets and/or needle and seat. If you havent done so, also replace every single vacuum line with new stuff. Cheap to do, and good chance at least one is brittle and is leaking. Also by the sounds of that accel pump, it could do with another kit, they are only about $50. |

sorted.. turned out to be the float bouncing when I go off road and splashing into the venturi. Lowered the float down to 15mm and bent the tab that stops it dropping so low. Instant difference and even got some more acceleration. coupled up a few days later with a new set of leads, rotor, cap and plugs its running mickey mouse. |
