Post subject:  GV waxstat leak

Hi guys,

I'm new here and this is my first post :D

I have an 04 grand vitara SQ625 and I've noticed that my coolant is being used up really fast and discovered a leak on the front of my throttle body. Took it to the mechanic and he said that it is the waxstat that is the problem. He wanted to know if there was an O-ring inside that he might be able to replace but didn't want to take it apart to find out. So far as I can tell I can't buy a waxstat on it's own and would need to replace the throttle body unless there might be some way he can stop the leak. Anyone know if a fix is possible or should I just foot the bill for a new throttle body? Also if that's the case any advice on things to look for in second hand ones?

Thanks so much,

Josh

Hey Josh

Unfortunately your fast idle switch cannot be replaced :(. A single pressed in piece with a locking clamp.
I had the same issue with mine and the only option was a TB replacement - Stupid really for a small problem.
You can probably use some sort of sealant which could patch the issue.
Or maybe some of that fuel tank repair putty should work. Remove all the parts around it and grind it back should look ok :)
