We've all seen the pics of rappers with samis and vits on wires so they can't be to hard to get?

So, given I've inherited "The Lowrider" and partially for shits and giggles, I'm toying with the idea of running Wire Spoke Wheels (think cholo mexican lowrider). Wondering how they would cope with the stresses from hard wheeling. I'm of two minds given that they are used under hydraulic cars for bouncing, but the forces with wheeling are usually across both axis', not just up and down but sideways aswell. Catch 22 is though, those wheel I imagine would be the genuine top end market ones, I dont want to spend anymore than I have to to achieve the look. The other possible hinderence (i've literally only just thought of while writing this) is finding a set that will have an opening at the center big enough for the Free Wheeling Hub. I like the idea of them being steel because I can be extra ridiculous and weld on beadlocks aswell. Whats everyones thoughts? Do-able? |

This sounds like the coolest thing ever. However, wire wheels are crazy expensive. |

I think the other major hurdle is going to be finding centre caps that will fit the hub. Much research to be done I guess. |

id say you will be hosing them off track side before hitting the tar.. i imagine they will hold mud well |

what happens if a spoke gets bent on a stick? what happens if all the spkes get bent on one side on a stick? |

Its not the spokes I'd worry about bending Jezza, it'd be the strength of the rim itself. Spokes mostly do fine (as do the rims themselves too) if kept tight. |

Change to the spare? most of the ones i've found are in the region of -64 offset, so the spoke face will be a fair way in, and if I can get them cheap enough i'll be looking at bead locks, which will create abit more defense. Not something I'm really concerned about. Strength in general is my only concern. Cost can be overcome, cleaning can be dealt with. I just dont want to drop the clutch in 3rd low and snap all the spokes. haha. |

You're worried about that in a Sierra? Wire wheels are on heaps of V8 sedans that would put as much torque to the ground on bitumen as a 1.6 Sierra will off road. Bead locks will make the rim band far stronger. It should look pretty good. |
