Since no-one has replied during the last few days.....
I think the lack of info on engine swaps should be trying to tell you something - that no-one is bothering going down this minefield with these cars.
Tempting, as there are cheap candidates out there, especially like your 1.9litre DDiS all blown up & not worth fixing (ssshhhh).
At least blown up ZD30 Patrols are still a decent car, looking for a more reliable engine & are popular enough that people entertain re-powering.
A JB/JT Grand Vitara is a marginal, bit player in the marketplace - not popular enough for someone to spend the time & effort in developing a re-power package - what are you going to end up with?
I note that you probably prefer diesel, in which case there are a few small diesels out there now that might be suitable, but so hard these days to get body control modules (immobilizer systems) to talk to ECU's - even in diesels, so many systems are linked. Bound to be easier in a 10yo DDiS, but what about the car the new engine comes from?.
Doesn't seem to be many common issues with diffs / gearbox / t/case on these cars, so driveline strength might be borderline ok with more power & torque.
A petrol 3.2litre N32 2008-2011 GV has got ample power if you want something that goes harder than a 2.4 or 2.7.

Didn't you just just do the dpf removal and ecu tune?

Any discussion would be purely theoretical. Taking into account CAN bus and emissions, any legal conversion would be extremely costly and time consuming - probably dearer than replacing the Vitara with a vehicle more suitable for your use.

What do you want the finished vehicle to achieve it can't do now?

found this:

thread dies, but found cross-post here:

figure mentioned was that it cost $12k to replace the 2.4 with the 3.2 into a SWB NGV.

Id like to add that the donor car for the conversion was over 6k. So we are talking under 6k in labour..

There was a SWB ngv that had either a 2.7 or 3.2 fitted to it in SA a few years ago. Not sure if it was road legal but it was neat, it was used by a rally school or something. Competed at the pines enduro in 2013(?) where it wasn’t very good.

I sort of don’t view this anything like a conversion though- it’s sort of a remove and refit excercise, and the only reason it (sort of) made sense is becuase suzuki didn’t sell that configuration in our market.

Bash a Chrysler Eco boost and 8 speed into it. 570nm at 2000rpm. Shouldn't be to hard
