| Post subject: | Traction Control Conversion |
Good day all, Dylan here from South Africa. Nice to be on the forum. I have a rather technical question. Here in South Africa Suzuki seems to just serve us the minimal amount of features needed for the vehicles to be road legal. Ie NO Traction Control or ESC. I recent bought a 2015 Suzuki Jimny, Purely for off road & over-landing use. However no diff-locks & no traction control can be rather limiting in certain cases. Especially when over-landing solo. In SA it would cost us roughly 30 000.00 ZAR (3 000 AUD ) to do dual lockers. However I am under the opinion that I could import the needed parts from AUS to convert my vehicle to have the needed TC in 4x4-L for much less. So in summary my questions are: > What components are needed in able to get Traction Control working in 4x4-L. > Would it be possible to import these from AUS and retrofit them into my 2015 Jimny. Looking forward to your responses. |

In short it’s not feasible. Lockers will be far, far cheaper. I could provide a longer response, but rest assured it’s not worth pursuing. |

And far better. Sophisticated traction control in late cars is actually pretty effective. Jimny traction control is not that sophisticated! Still not as useful as selectable lockers in really tough stuff. Unless you are going really hard core (which is unlikely if you over landing solo) then just a rear locker (& some decent tyres) will be sufficient & save some coin. BTW, it would cost about $3000 AUSD to twin lock a Jimny here as well. Rgs, Michael |

If I'm honest though, the reasoning still plagues my mind. Maybe I don't understand exactly what would be needed. I was under the impression that I could Import an ecu from a written off vehicle is Aus. Plug it into my car. I assume there will be some complications with that alone. And then maybe some additional wiring? The vehicle has ABS already, SO it should just be the control mechanisms that are missing? However I have a feeling I might be slightly off on this one? |

Maybe i'm just upset that our jimnys dont come with traction control and im forced to spend the money on lockers earlier than I would have had to if I had traction control. |

It's a good thing to not have it on an offroad specific vehicle... it just means you need to learn how to drive, and, with fun buttons (lockers) you then get to un-learn how to drive and just cheat the entire time hahaha |

Does your Jimny have ABS? |

Your’re going to need to do a LOT of parts system searching. I still don’t think it’s practical. I’ll almost guarantee it’s not just an ECU swap. |
