I have just changed my rear wheel bearings to remove excessive end float on the right hand side but with new bearings and everything tight the end float is still there . Any ideas as to why its still there

How much end float do you have?

That rear axle is located by the axle bearing, so any movement is either between the inner & outer race of the bearing, or between the outer race of the bearing and the axle housing.
