Whats the best overall gear to be in driving on the beach and should i select 4low or 4x4 high what ones works better |

depends on how soft the sand is , what size tyre you have , what pressure you have your tyres at . or just send it and see how you go . start in H4 1st if you can change up gears all is good if not go to L4 and repeat try your tyre pressures at 10psi |

Sand is like snow. It’s never the same. Sometimes you’ll be churning in low, sometimes you’ll be in 2nd high. Personally, if you’re running LT tyres, I’d describe 10psi as the maximum pressure I’d consider on sand. Carry the tools to reseat a bead and re-inflate a tyre and go crazy. |

When I ran 215/75r15 HT tyres on mine, they'd happily sit around 7psi and drive on absolute powder sand. Like you'd get out and sink past your ankles, but the car was floating on top. After that it's just a case of keeping the revs around 3,000rpm. If it goes below 2,700 or so then drop a gear until you're using first more than second. Once that happens find a hard patch or downhill to stop on, change to low range and keep on going =) Keep an eye on engine temp too - sand is hard work, and low speeds don't move a lot of air around. |

Ive got 215 all terrain tyres and dropped it to about 18psi today, Went well, tried both high and low range, went good, i probably should of had it in low range went getting of the beach today to think of it , the beach has like a hill and sand is really soft when exiting, i had it in high in second gear, the revs started to drop and slow me down abit but got off ok. |

18psi is almost road pressure =) Go down to 10 to start with, and be amazed at how much easier life gets. |

8psi, low range and change up or down depending on if it’s holding revs at the limiter. 5 speed jimnys will do 70kph in low range |

I currently run 215/80R15 AT’s and run 9psi front and 7psi rear. On 205/70 HT’s I ran 11-12psi front and 9-10 psi rear. On a Jimny. I personally like staggered pressures as the rear end is a little more lighter and helps a little with grip when climbing and cresting over a dune. I have never popped a bead in the rear, but have on the front with the 205’s. Never done a bead with the current tires and that includes a lot of sideways sliding down a dune, air time and even landing semi sideways on the opposite side of a crest. If just real soft beach work I am sure I could go a lot lower. Basically get a compressor and have a play as it is tyre dependent. Start at 10psi. I would use low range at the start, but basically you want whatever gear keeps you over 4000rpm at all times. Majority of my Jimny stucks in sand have been from the engine bogging down and loosing momentum. At least with low range you can slap it back into first saw at the wheel and bash limiter to get you through the real soft stuff. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
