The main area I want to improve is fuel capacity, 90% of the time the stand tank will do me just fine, but I do like to drive in longer runs without stopping and when I do go away if I no longer take a trailer then I can't take any or not many jerry cans away with me.
I definitely think whatever I choose I will have one of the spare wheel mounted 10lt jerry cans, i always carry extra fuel.
but my opinionopinions are as follows l.
1) keep the 40lt tank, I've never bothered putting a bigger tank on any previous vehicle anyway, and got by just fine.
2) a Chinese company makes a plastic 55lt replacement tank that doesn't require any modification to the exhaust, and it would give the perfect size tank for my needs. (But it's an unknown)
3) put in a longranger 80lt tank, it is much bigger then I would like but has a lot extra range to it, and weight, it's easy to buy and has really good reviews.
4) put a 30lt or maybe 25lt reserve tank on it, that keeps the factory tank and fills it up at the flick of a switch. Exhaust modification is needed and if I want to put a tow bar on at a later date, unless i get it built with that in mind then it could be an issue later on.

Ive got my initial thoughts but I'm interested in yours.

After seeing your post in the BigJimny forum I went looking for the chinese made tanks and I've found two tanks - both for the third gens - do you have a link to the one you're looking at?

I'm faced with a different situation to yours, I live in a country where the majority of the population live in a narrow strip along the coast, once you get outside of the capital city your choices for quality fuel are limited and if you're headed into the rain forest, then the situation gets worse, what fuel is available is of questionable quality, so for me it's not about not stopping to fill up, it's having limited places to fill up, and having to "detour" to get decent fuel.

Luckily I can't find the Chinese one ATM, I neglected to sacrle the link, but it's a plastic tank the same price as a longranger, so I think it's off my wish list.

For me it's about quality and future proofing, longranger have been around for long enough to know how to build something right and like you said if you want to fit a tow bar later on it doesn't become an issue.

That is the big concern, I would rather the reserve tank but I don't want to have to buy another one later on if I decide I need a tow bar.
The 80lt is a lot bigger then I need but for the times when I need to carry extra fuel there will be plenty of it.

Another option is there's a few places that make custom tanks, but that's a lot more expense just to get a smaller tank then the LongRanger made, even if it's made from stainless.

I think I will get the 10lt jerry carrier as I always keep a jerry anyway, then see how much fuel economy my lethargic driving style gets me, then make a final decision.
