So how bout someone helping a guy out, (presuming you are a guy of course)How do you fix it???? Can you fix it without removing transfer from the car?

Is it deffinitly stuck in neutral? ie put your gearbox in neutral and can you roll the car. If not. put the stick out of the transfer and use a long screwdriver to manipulate the selector rods to get them in the right place.

i have had this happen many times before. pull the stick out of the transfer case and then put it back in, in the correct position. there should be a bush in there and it prob needs to be replaced. A mate had the same problem few weeks back, replaced the bush and it hasn't missed a beat.

Yep just a $5.00 bush mate.
Remove the steel spring around the rubber seal at the bottom of the stick and remove the rubber seal. (it slides up)
Get 2 screw drivers and pushdown and twist around (can't remember which way) and this will pop up. Then you can remove the stick.
Replace bush (easy, then fitting is the reverse.
Hope this helps

mine use to do the same thing, this is before i had internet and this forum.

exclusive jap imports told me i had to buy a new box and cost me over $1000 to get done. and my speedo didnt even work right after. as you can imagine i was not happy when i found out later i all i had to replace the bush.

BUT yes take the rubber boot off the gear stick and have a look. its REALLY simple, i think all i needed was 2 screwdrivers or something like that.

Well Annoying after seeing two of the same issue threads mine did the same while 4wd'ing out today..
Stuck in Neutral...
So ive done
Remove the steel spring around the rubber seal at the bottom of the stick and remove the rubber seal. (it slides up)

But I cannot for the life of my get that next cap thing to push down and twist..
Ive stuck two drivers in there, get it to drop in depth but then just cant get any purchase to twist it left or right?

Any tips for me?
Gonna have to be tomoza now as run out of light!

Wear rubber gloves, no kidding. Or if you have an old grinder spanner you could modify..

All you have to do is move one of the bars "North or South" so that you see a "square hole" between them. That is what the shifter drops into.
