Hi all I'm needing to replace my leaf springs in my 1986 SJ413, I currently have EFS leaf's and the drivers rear has always sat lower. at the time I got a lot of information off here and was going to get the OME springs, but at the last minute some I knew talked me out of it by telling me that they snap and that the EFS one are better, now that I need some more I'm just going to go for the OME ones and have got a price that I'm happy with, My question is do I just go with the standard ones or do I need the higher load ones. ARB say i need the higher rating I have a steel bullbar with steel rear bar with tyre swing, it is just used for day trips and the odd overnighter, some times I have two kids in the back and some camp gear on the roof and the EFS ones are bottoming out (shackle hitting the towbar bolts at the back of the chassis) I'm going to get it back road legal and have it for more of the easier touring type trips as I just got it looking nice and I'm going build up something else that I can do some competitions and the harder trips. |

I always got the OME standard duty and then took out additional leaves. That was with a steel bar, winch, cage, heavy spare and equipment in the back. It would bend springs if I got it very bound up and I let the car bounce on an obstacle, but spring rate was never an issue. The heavy duty ones run a very stiff overload spring that really locks up the suspension. I've bent lots of OME springs but haven't had one snap. |

Thanks zook_fan, I had decided on sticking with the standard rears after digging through old posts and build threads. I will stick with standards for the front as well. |

Hi Jezzer I have a set of EFS leaf springs for mine and find they are very bouncy and not that soft, great for off roading but not so much for getting to the tracks - I was considering taking a leaf out to help soften it up. I replaced them for certification with the standard ones for a 413 and they are so much softer and the 2 kids and camping gear and the fact you are bottoming out the EFS ones makes me think the OME ones will be way too soft for your needs. If you want to compare I have the EFS ones out and sitting, awaiting certification to be complete in order to return them to service. I would suggest a trip to a spring maker and explain exactly your plans are and where the weight sits and they would be able to make something customised for your needs - and still run to a particular height for legal reasons Cheers Andy |
