Hi all,

Is there a recommended 2" leaf springs set for a good ride and all-round use these days? (91 SJ70).

FYI, I am fine with removing some leaves if this is part of the formula, and I am ok with dropping some height from the 2" springs as my SJ70 already has a BL that is not coming out... It was on 31's 15x8 but I plan to go down to 30's 15x7. I had Kings SUZ-002 / SUZ-006 in the car previously and even with some leaves removed, they were too harsh/stiff.

Where do you plan to drive most - road or off road, or extreme terrain as suspension is going to be good for some but not all.

I have a SJ413/ SJ50 and have gone back to standard springs for certification and away from 2 inch lifted springs and have noticed the 2 inch lifted ones from EFS feel every bump and feature on a sealed road, but they really come into their own when on the trails when you want more "feel" about what the vehicle is doing. After certification I plan to return the 2 inch lifted springs back to the vehicle but plan to take out some of the short springs to soften the ride but still give me off road performance. I thought better of big wheels as it also has certification issues and gear ratio issues and cannot see the point of 31's or 33's when 235/75/15's will get you just as far without the issues. If I cannot get what I want I will be visiting a local spring maker, after trying to mix the standard ones which are too soft and not sitting the vehicle straight with a drop on the drivers side, and the EFS ones.

Similar to your EFS story here - My old setup was Kings springs with leaves removed, on the 31's. It worked great off-road (twin locked, gears, etc), and sat level, but on-road the ride was absolutely shit. It was closer to 3" of lift on those springs too (plus my 2" BL and it was really too high). This time around, it's more about the on-road manners for me. I'll really just be using the Zook on sunny days for fun, with a small bit of medium-core wheeling here and there. But big 4x4 trips in the Zook are not the plan - I have a Landcruiser for that.

RWC has passed on the 2" BL and stock springs that I threw back in, but they are totally flogged out (with the lean) and I need to replace them, and I'm going to fit 30's.

So, what I'm looking for is new springs with anywhere between 1" to 2" (max) of lift, that will ride pretty well on the road with my setup. How ever it performs off-road will be fine, I'm not concerned - it will still go further than my Landcruiser no matter what I do. :)

I guess there is a case that an owner might prefer a firmer spring on road to reduce body roll, but in general, internal (inter-leaf) friction dominates the ride quality of a sierra. Other than that it’s about getting the spring rate right for the load.

in over 30 years of being involved with 4wd’s, I have never heard this as a justification for a higher spring rate than required. Why would you want less traction and less capability so you can “feel” more?

Peizooki- if they’re still available, OME springs every time.
