During a days wheeling at the power lines on the weekend I developed a noise. I have a rattle that sounds similar to a washer rattling on a bolt.

Its consistent and remains in or out of 4wd. Does not go away when the clutch is in or out. If you push the clutch in and brake hard it stops.

So far Ive been over the truck looking for anything lose. Checked uni's, drive line, wheel bearings, motor ect. Thinking its got something to do with the gear box / clutch as its difficult to get into first and when it does its very clunky and sometimes it grinds going to second even though the clutch is fully in.

I recently replaced the gearbox mount after it was found to be in two pieces. Maybe the movement of the box flogged out the bearing on the box where the jack shaft goes in?

Dunno... Any ideas?

Cheers

Change your gearbox oil n see. Maybe youve got shit in it. Crunching going into gears generally means your synchros are worn but could be wrong oil as well. My gearbox is tight till it warms up a bit, it does get to about 0 degrees here tho haha. Flogged bearings make more of a rough almost grinding sort of noise not really a rattle

Also you say it stops when you brake. Check your pads a bit of mud and dirt can soon fuck them. And pads can make a noise similar to that.

Otherwise just check everything and think back if you smashed into a rut too hard or anything like that.

And wash everything well dirt might be stuck on something.

What sort of truck do you drive?
Does it still make the noise when carrying a load?

Found it. Can you see it? This photo is looking up at the jack shaft/shifter mechanism.
