g'day

i need to bend my gear shifter forward due to me and my dad installing a
bodylift. we were thinking cutting a wedge out of the back and then bending it and welding where the cut was so we need to know if it is steel or something like cast iron?
So does anyone know what the shifter is made from??

thanks

its steel mate well the bottom half is the as you move up theres rubber in there somewhere as it changes to a larger diameter.
cut it cool it in water, weld it cool it again in water...
i cut and welded a peice of pipe the size of my body lift if that helps, instead of the cut and bend approach..

Hey Smally,

I bent my gear lever in a vice so it's shaped like one of those 1980's layback BMX seat poles, it's got a double bend in it & my transfer case lever was extended 3" I had to trim some of the rubber bits to stop it knocking out of gear...

The shifter does end up being a fair bit shorter, I have a SAAS leather gear shift boot as the original one needed the "neck" to be cut off completely.
