Gotta love that tacho... Why do they put the red bit from 6500 to 8000 when it's limited to 6500?

about the Vss thingo... Some of you say you have to have it some don't use it and most have no idea what it is. Please will one of you Royce, stek or want33 please explain what it actualy is. I have heard you will get check engine lights or the dash wont work without it. What does VSS stand for?
The main reason I ask is I know some one that that has the 1.6 in there sierra, the engine came out of a vitara that had VSS and they didnt use it and have never had a problem???? Whats the go???

how much for the fuel gauge? it reads higher than mine :)

Post subject:  Re: VSS thingo

The VSS sends a digital signal to the engines ecu relative to road speed
it sends a pulse signal that increases in frequency when road speed increases, much like a ABS sensor

the reason it needs it for such things like lean cruse, operating EGR, mapping changes.

Have heard reports of people having throttle flat spots with G16 16v conversions without this

VSS stands for Vehicle Speed Sensor.
Car will run fine without it, but the CHECK ENGINE light will come on intermittently and get annoying.

VSS tells the ECM how fast the vehicle is going so it can FINE tune the fuel mixture for a given speed & throttle load.
I want a VSS just to make the bloody check engine light go away. 8O

Umm nope I do just fine at my job I work on VW for a living not Suzuki's dick...

You should go fuck your self but I don't go around saying it do I? Opps i just did. I asked a simple question. Not your opinion on me.

As I have said people say you must use it well Nick (your-mum) is my proof that they are full of shit. He still has the VSS thingo sitting on his bench and has never had a problem.

Oh and Stenk before you were a god and knew what every single 3 letter abreviasion to do with cars. What did you do?

do you know what GFY stands for? how about SCE????

anybody know how the signal relates to speed, IE how many pulses per km?

I have a plan for a fan controller :)

Settle down Dave....
Your strictly VW training has you at a disadvantage but all the info you need to be a Suzuki whiz is right here either in the download section or in threads.

No idea about the pulses but Jaycar do a few kits that can switch all sorts of stuff off just about any input.

I am settled Want33 I asked a simple question and got a Dick answer So I gave the Dick a fuck off responce.

To me what you call a VSS is a G2 or G60 on older VW.

Hook line and sinker buddy......................................

If you don't like something on the web/net/forums you are best off ignoring it and carrying on because arcing up will only end up making you look like a psycho with a temper problem**.

**Don't get pissed at me... I'm not saying you DO have a temper issue, just saying thats how it may appear to others.

Besides, you have learnt what VSS stands for and what a VSS does so you are armed with some knowledge.

I think its roughly 536 revs/pulses per km. Should have it written on the back of the speedo unit.

For some reason I had 836 in my head, but i'm usually wrong when it comes to memorising things like this

I'm pretty sure the VSS pulses 4 times for each revolution of the speedo cable, so if you know your speedo gear and diff ratios and tyres size you should be able to work it out moer accurately than what's on the back of the speedo. I mean, if you've change tyres sizes the dicking around might be worth it if you need the accuracy.

I'm pretty sure the mapping changes are only going to relate to deceleration enrichment, so not having a VSS is going to cause you to use more fuel.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out that VSS is Vehicle Speed Sensor. The initials and what it is used for sort of give it away.

How does G2 or G60 give any meaningful indication of what the item is. Is it a factory part number ?

The VSS is a minority sensor and does trim both timing and fuel tables. It uses the speed to determine aerodynamic load on the car. Yea will use a tad more fuel at cruise without it but shouldnt really cause noticable flatspots, that could be another issue.

That 536/537 revs per km in pretty sure i saw on a sierra cluster, vit might be the same. If Damo's is right with the 4 pulses per rev at the cluster from the VSS then its 536*4 pulses/km

I never ended up putting mine in and it runs fine.

I did however go to the trouble of mounting the Check Engine light right in the dash so i can see it light up when it realises the VSS isnt installed.

Who is the fool now.
