Post subject:  Electric Fuel Pumps
so the 1.0 has an elec. fuel pump.. problem is.. its somewhat tempremental.. likes to cut in and out ramdomly, but a few love taps with a solid object gets it pumpin again.. looking to replace but wondering what to replace with.. Dont say mechanical.. Id prefer elec. as thats whats there and does work..sometimes!

Anyone else replaced their mech. unit with an elec unit? What did you use..?
bear in mind its a 1.0 carb. fed motor, so it aint exaclty a big drinker!

will edit in a pic of the current setup once I get a chance to grab a pic or 3. :)

in the meantime.. let the ideas flow :)

You should be able to get generic electric fuel pumps for carbs from any auto shop.

Mate had one in has mkII escort panel van

good point.. id presume that's whats in it, just don't know about flow rate etc.. will it be marked on the pump itself? They tend to smirk when you mention its only a 1.0 in capacity.. lol

:lol: Head to a wrecker and get a facet pump from a mazda etc (carby motor) will feed you 1.0 easy and are bloody reliable

supercheap sells the facet pumps, i believe you can get high flow & low pressure OR low flow and high pressure. Whichever your car prefers.

i was about to say the same thing, these work great and i have robbed them from every wrecked mazda i have come accross. cheap and reliable.

Yep I agree the facet is good, carter also make a good small simple pump as well. If yours is a facet type pump there is really nothing to them, you will find that there is a bit of dirt, scale, rust or something that the pump has picked up and it is periodicly getting caught in the wrong place, strip it and clean it out, 15 minute job, pull it apart carefully because there are a couple of small bits inside that need to go back the same way, make sure you have an inline filter between the pump and tank and make sure your earth is good.

Yeh im thinkin might be a simple case of a bit of crud in the pump to, the lightest tap with the screwy gets it pumping straight away, will add a filter before the pump and see what difference it makes!

Mate that is the type of pump I was talking take it off the car put it on some clean rag on a bench and unscrew the ends, simple as inside, clean it out and away you go. A word of warning - dont try to do it on the car because it has a spring and a small valve inside that you are likely to loose when it comes apart.
