hey guys I know my battery/alternator setup wasn't very good for a long time till I realised it was just the v belt was crappy and old... Haven't had any trouble with it for a long time now and just went to go to the shops and the battery is dead... no lights on dash, no click, no nothing... I thought it might be the wires so I checked the connections at the battery and starter motor as well as the little wire on the bottom of the starter as mine is a bit loose and has come off in the past... but they all seem fine... What would cause the battery to die overnight as it worked fine yesterday? Also I just went to charge it and my charger is switching itself on and off - lights come on says its charging, then click its off and no lights on it at all... not even though it is connected to both terminals of the battery and usually a red light comes on to say connected... So is this a dead battery AND charger or am I missing something that would cause all of this? Cheers PETE |

sounds to me like lack of water in the battery? or dead battery causing a dead short. |

Yep its amazing how so many never check the battery water level Low water level will stuff the plates in the battery... If you do alot of 4WDing, and the battery isnt a 4WD battery, you may have snapped off or dislodged one of the battery plates... Also, does the battery have a date stamp ? Anything after 5 years old may start to have problems... do you have another battery ? put that in see how it goes... if it goes ok, you need a new battery But the battery charger doing that would indicate a problem with the battery, i am assuming you took both battery leads off to charge it... |

Hey Pete, have you got a multimeter? That will tell you if you've got a open circuit battery. Is there any chance you left something on? Interior light etc? |

Is there any chance you left something on? Interior light etc? Damo, I don't have an interior light... well a bulb for it anyway... I got a big fat zero when I put it over the battery could get 3V when the charger was switched on before it clicked off again... |

jump start it and let it run for 20mins and then charge it my mini has a wierd fault where if the battery discharges itself to a certain point the regualtor shorts it out and flattens it, so I have to do this all the time |
