It's Sad to have to do this,
But i need to re-home our two German shepherds, The reason for this is that our fences are no longer high enough to keep them in as they have started walking themselves during the day. I would love to Re-home them together as they are very close to each other. They are great with kids and just need extra attention and exercise. As we are unable to provide this with long work hrs and a new baby. So if anyone knows of a loving home that would like two German Shepherds, we would really appreciate it.
I really need to keep them together as a pair as they love each other very much and i would be too hard on them to separate them.
They are approximately 4-5 years old, healthy and wormed and kept upto date with the vet.
They are great with kids and make excellent guard dogs, i have never had one Jehovah's witness dare to knock on the front door LOL.
I love my dogs very much and have thought long and hard about this, so i want to see them go to a loving family where they will be looked after and get the attention they deserve.

I've been through this for the exact same reason. Tis a horrible thing to do.
Get in contact with the local shepard club, and a few of the local adoption places.. not rspca but the smaller re-homing mobs
All the best.

Just spent close to $4000 on colourbond fences that i thought were high enough, clearly i underestimated them

I thought of that, but unsure where to start, my wife has placed an add on a website for German Shepherd's but most sites look like they are old and haven't had much activity on them

You could try a zappy collar thing with the boundary set back from the fence. It shouldn't take much to teach them not to bail the fences.

i haven't thought of that, but i have a zapping bark collar that seems to have no effect on them

I think the boundary fence collars give a bigger boot than the barking ones. Could be worth a shot mate.

My guess is you really don't want them. Someone with your fab skills would'nt find it too hard to lift the fence an put 6 or 7 courses of bricks under it.
What about the simple old runner.

swifty_ano wrote: Electric fence top?
I did that along the bottom of one of the fences to stop them digging under it, they only hit it 3 times and never went near it again.
I don't want to run an electric fence around the perimeter of the fence as i live in the suburbs and if it zapps someone i might get sued

All these fixes don't cure the constant barking at everyone that walks past

If you want to keep them, make sure they've got plenty to do while you're away. Hang an old dirtbike tyre from a tree. Ties a long length of strong rope around the base of a tree with some knots on it to play tug with. Make sure they've got toys to chew and things to climb on or under. Give them things to do.
With the fence, do you know if they are taking a running start at it? If so a short barrier (that they can't push off of) about a metre inside the fenceline will stop them getting a running start. If they're pushing off the top of the fence or scrambling over rather than clearing it, buy some 150mm PVC and slot it with an angle grinder so it sits on top of the fence. The rounded surface will make it almost impossible for them to scramble up.
Worst case - cat netting that angles back into your yard near the top of the fence. It's a visual barrier, won't harm them if they try to jump, won't be visible really to anyone in the street and can't harm a human if they touch it.
Just suggestions but I hope they help. They're beautiful dogs and deserve to stay together

Ask your vet or better yet local dog kennel if they can recommend a dog trainer. Well, better put a dog owner trainer, but same deal Shouldn't be too difficult for one who knows their stuff to put the dogs right re both barking and jumping the fence

Heard of training..
You don't buy 2 dogs, Bring them up into your life, Then say oh my fence is too low and get rid of them. Are you for real!?!?!
I will have Dogs all my life i reckon.
And for the zappers. Thats pathetic. Try one around your neck 1st.

Mate, beautiful dogs, but whatever you do, don't seperate them. Up until last year I had a shepard and a keeshondxkelpie. The keeshond had to be put down due to illness, and 3 days later, the shepards heart gave up due to missing the kelpie. Almost f%#ing killed me it did.

Not many people in the dog world are on the net. You will need to get in touch with the person and email even sometimes post them an ad.
Google dog re-homing or adoption.. also german shepard club
The issue's you list can all be fixed pretty easily through the correct training. Shepards are switched on, so need alot of stimulation. the barking and fence jumping is a product of that.
I've got a 7month old bub so know exactly how much time they soak up. Hence why I gave my staffy up. She needed 1.5hours a day minimum of training/activities and double that a couple of days a week otherwise she got destructive.

Where also looking into training made contact with one that is good with dog behavior and found a good price containment fencing which should keep them from the fence.
Understand that re-homing them was an absolute last resort and I am still looking at other options

i would take them but i am already fighting my parents to let me have two zooks letalone two dogs. if u end up having to pass them to another family let your local vet know. most vets are animal lovers and might be able to tell you some one who will be interested

Dont get rid of them mate...... you'll come to a point later in your life where you cant even go back in your tracks and change how things went, ie gettin dogs back. Gettin a dog means keeping them for the rest of their lives. JMHO
