3.5 inch backspacing is pretty much -12mm offset on an 8" rim. 15x8" rims 3.5" backspacing leaves 0.5" to mounting face from centre line. 0.5" = 12mm thereabouts. This is all estimated as the rim width is measured between the beads and the backspacing is generally measured from outside of the beads so the thickness of the rim bead will effect the measurements.
