I have a 2003 jimny with auto
Rear diff seems to have been damaged after some water ingestion. Might need to replace the centre.
Is this the same as a SJ413? I can find alot of SJ413 stuff that says its compatible but i'm not sure.
Might do a locker while i'm at it

getting a air locker be easier.
but might not be cheaper.
i know the diff ratio on a auto Jimny is different to a manual one

i suppose i better figure out my ratio. there seems to be some disagreement re ratios, some say everyone is 4.09, manual or auto, others say they are different.

also i think my issue is with the ring gear/crown gear. a hum/whine from the rear when under power/cruising. goes away when you lift off the throttle
so i'll need to replace these as the locker doesnt include these parts.
A local wrecker can sell me a jimny centre for $350 or whole diff for $700.00 never even asked about ratios but i assume the one they have is from a manual
my diff started playing up after i got bogged in deep water. when i drained it 5L of mush came out. so there is a chance the damage is more than just the centre so i'm thinking of replacing the diff (regrettably...)

on a side note... if i buy both front and rear centres from a manual, i would increase final drive to 4.3 giving me a little more lowdown crawling torque. I do sometime do highway driving though so i wont commit to this yet.
the point of my OP is that i will pay more if i have to specifically shop for a jimny auto diff centre, as opposed to if i can buy any centres from other compatible cars as well. i realise if i change ratios i have to do front and rear so they match though. if i must replace my diff centre i might as well see if i can make any improvements like lockers or better ratios
hope that makes sense

the arb site lists a difference between models too - as in, you need to sprecify the year of your jimny between 99-05 and 05-10... perhaps the difference is not between manual and auto, but between builds? (maybe the VVT engined jimny has different ratios)

yet to see an auto one that has a different ratio than a manual. i've contacted suzuki about different ratios for that model and they do not exist. they are all 4.09 to 1.
if you are after another centre get one from a widetrack maruti, they are the same size and are 4.1 to 1 which will be fine.

if you read the sales brochures they state they are different, this is where we got confused many years ago, but pulling them apart and enquiring with suzuki they aonly list one ratio for aussie models.

it may fit, but its a 3.7, not a 4.1 (or 4.09)

The rear ARB Air Locker from my 02' T2 Jimny fitted straight into my 1992 wt sierra if that helps anyone. The rear carriers & centres are interchangeable as are the rear crown-wheel & pinion's.

Just to follow this up. i bought a wrecked jimny diff from a manual. Definately works fine. Very slight difference in shock mounts (needed longer bolt) but same ratio.
Now my front's shot too, but at least it isnt a problem most of the time. The front shaft can rattle a lot, thats all.
