The connectors are pretty good and cant go on backwards.
Have you touched the timing at all?
No teeth chipped on the bottom pulley for the sensor?

Haven't touched the timing.
I'll go and double check the plug to the CAS.

WIN!!!
She started!!!!!
JrZook wrote: The crank angle sensor is a critical part of the timing
I remembered that when the sump was welded, the flange around the crank angle sensor was not quite straight. Well, it was out far enough that the magnet was not picking up the teeth as they went past.
The sensor was angled towards the rear of the engine too much. So I carefully shaved off part of the rear section (a little bit at a time) until it was straight.

Yep and loud with no exhaust
I just did the traditional "Auszookers run with no exhaust after an engine swap"
I'm nearly out of beer and the bottle-o is just down the hill anyway...

So you're saying that Jimny extractors will definitely clear the engine mount?
There seems to be a lot of confusion as to which Vit extractors will fit...

Jimnys have a very similar chassis spacing to sierra's. Its not the engine mount that is the problem, its how they run next to the chassis.
Vits have a bigger chassis, so some make extractors with more room to play.
I bought vit ones, then had to modify them to suit. Waste of $300, and special order so couldnt return them, and too far away from where i bought them also! (wildcat114 meant to be 2 types, same number)

The bloke at Carline really want's to go with Vit extractors.
I said Jimny, he reckons they have different heads. Then I told him the Baleno and Jimny have the same manifold gasket he finally started to believe me...
Maybe I'll just try these http://www.bestmufflers.com/bshop/produ ... 8dd8d6fd94

Thanks mate
I would have never even attempted it without Auszookers. I've been researching this literally for years now, and have kept a close eye on other threads.
Zookernator
Bluesuzy (thread on "the site we don't mention around here")
Zachius
Damo (Where is Damo these days anyway?)
PJ.zook's wiring diagram.
And JrZook for his online interstate trouble shooting

I picked up a new Sierra temperature sender today.
The Baleno sender is bigger, with a different thread too. Luckily I found an adapter lying around that fits perfectly!
The Baleno plug has three wires going to: ECU, Baleno temp gauge, and Sensor ground. The Sierra sender has one.
The engine will not run if the Baleno plug is not connected. I assume this is because of a missing ground???

Just waiting for extractors to arrive, and need to sort out air-intake piping. Do you know a good place to get flexible rubber piping in Hobart?
I'll be up for a test run - somewhere fairly close to home though, just in case...

Air intake is complete
I just need to tidy up a bit of the old wiring, and the engine bay is done.
I've grafted the Baleno temp gauge into the Sierra instrument cluster.
It's wired basically the same as the Tacho. 3 wires, signal, ignition and earth - easy enough I thought...
But when I start the car, the needle goes all the way to the top. I must have accidentally swapped a couple of wires

That looks like the bottom of the gauge to me. ~_~
Your engine bay is also unusually clean . Very nice.

Yeah that's a pic showing the gauge. The needle actually goes straight to the top as soon as the ignition is on.
