I would like to build a 5 speed box to fit my 1lt sj410 its one of the first sierra's built in 1981. I think I have searched enough info to build the box but my question is, will the gearbox tunnel take a maruti box without mod's ?
you need to sign up to see pics. mines an 84 (1 litre). the 5 speed box fitted in the tunnel ok, but I had to cut the shifter hole out bigger (50mm further back) a 1.3 shifter boot covers neatly.

Not sure but from what I have read I got the impression that the later 1lt sierras had a wider tunnel. I have done alot of reading and I may be wrong or miss informed. Do you know if the type 3 sierra box is used, is the stick hole in right place to suit the tunnel with out mods ?

not sure about the different tunnel widths. do you have the 5 speed box to put in already? they are quite hard to find. if you have the box pull out the trusty old tape measure and see if it'll fit.

No I dont have the box yet I was planning on building one. Was just trying to make sure that I sourced the right bits to start with. Thanks for your help, I'll register with nbs and check out your thread.
