Now with my old rears, should i just put all of the old pack under the car or should i mix the front 2" lift with the old rear mains for a ruf?

And again with the old mazda 323's, Should i keep the main, then put the rest of the 2" pack?

Royce mentioned earlier with the 323s you'd want the main and secondary leaf otherwise there will be too much of a difference in length between the main (323) and secondary (suzi) leaves. This would leave the main prone to bending.

As for mixing your 2 inch front pack into your ruf pack that would depend on heights. I'd set up the rear 323s first and see how they sit as they are more of an unkown than RUF packs. I'm running full ome 40mm lift rear packs on all four corners of my rig. Yet my rear still sits higher. I imagine with the 323s you'll get less height so it mightn't be necessary to mix in the 2 inch pack..........hmmm did that make any sense? It kind of felt like I was writing Dr Seus.

hey boys,

I picked up some 808 springs the other night. they are 1100mm end to end, when I compared them to my 2inch ome dakar rears the locating pin is way out. Has anyone else found this? Its quite far forward compared to mine, around 3 inches. did I pick up the wrong springs? THere has been no mention of locating pic location in this thread about the mazda springs. WHo has actually done this mod?

I looked at running them backwards...it looks like it could work but will mean the rear diff will be running about 2 inches further back than normal... no real issue but will need more cutting of the rear quarter and some bumpstops plus probably running the u bolt plates with the shock pin in front of the housing instead of behind it....

How far can you move the diff back with 31s before they start eating the tub?

What about turning the spring around and drilling the perch and spring plate to move it forward a tad. So its sits back about an inch from standard??

Just confirming your measurements Moose!

and here's some observations from tonight mucking around with fitting on the rear of the zook.

ok just test fitted one side of the mazda 808 springs in the back of the zook. In the normal fitting orientation, it puts the axle in Stock location ~7mm rearwards of stock! man was i surprised.

I thought it was going to be way out on the ground. It also gives the shackle a heaps better angle with the spring mounted in the stock shackle hanger position. Heaps of droop and enough compression without destroying the shackle angle too much.

When in reverse it looks like its possible to redrill the BACK of the spring pad on the housing, and this will move the axle about 2-2.5 inchs rearward of stock. But looking at the fuel filler location on the body being located right behind the guard its probably gonna need to be chopped a fair bit to clear the guard. Dont know if its worth it or even viable to run a spring in reverse??? Anyway its looking like I won't need to swap the ubolt plates to run the shocks in front of the diff housing if I leave it in the stock location.

haven't got my camera here, have taken pics with phone and will post up tomorrow. thing is I just realised that the shackle angle is pretty good now but with the body back on it could become too much. Will just redrill front hanger which will improve it. and add the ome leafs to the main 808 at a later stage.

Nice work Dank! Is that with stock shackles? Did you lose/gain any height?

Hard to tell at this stage as zook is rolling chassis at the moment. I will prob run main and secondary leaf from the 808s and build up with my left over zook rear leaves when I put them in the front. I will use the main and secondary from my rears to go in the front and build up the rest from my front pack....have winch and bar so need a few in there...plus a heavier (4age) engine...when I finally get it in...

My shackles are 2 inch longer than stock. With stock shackles they would prob be a touch long.

I also measured from the centre of the bush at front of spring to the locating pin centre in a direct line on both set of springs this is what I found:

OME dakar 2" lift : 490mm
mazda 808: 470mm

so anyone running these will need to redrill the spring pad and ubolt plate 20mm FORWARD of the stock position to retain stock WB by moving the diff back.

Man that flex looks huge with those tyres! Nice work 83 zook!

Are you going to drop your rears in the front now?

what did custom springs set you back?

What shocks are you running?

I got quoted $200 for a pair of 50-70mm longer rear main leaves from Moorabbin Spring works in Vic.

I think B4T got a quote from a springworks in cambellfield for about $150 for 2 rear mains....

I got my pair of 808 mazdas for $55 8) bargain!

hey moose which ones did you put in the front..the 808s or the 323s. how much did it move you the diff forword, how much work was involved in fitting them in the front from being 50mm longer the sierra rears if 808s are used, also how much better do you recon the mazda ones will flex over the RUF with sierra leafs..
the thread is getting prity interesting..:)

Sorry.. im running gabriel hilux rear shocks in the rear, does just hit on full compression, but dont seem to limit down travel.
And running Pedders VS commodore wagon rear shocks in the front.
Front springs are carry van rear main leaves with a mix of 2" lifted fronts. Carry springs are not quite as long as sierra rears.
I've redrilled the rear hangers in the front back 24mm to make shackle angle better and the pitman arm used to hit on the tierod

Put my mazda 323 wagon rears in tonight, well all i can say , suzy is abit fully sick

It actually lowered suzys rear because the springs are so soft.

Tommorrow keep the main and will change the bottom 3 leaves to the 2"lifted ones. Then i will need shock....

I also needed to redrill the perch so it was centre like a stock rear then alittle extended wheelbase, 20mm + extend 15mm. More wheelbase is no good with 33"s. , fuel filler in the way

But now thinking keep the flat stance and just spring over... :?

2wd ISUZU ute are a great fit, moves the diff back 1 1/2" and are ~100mm longer in the back section, which is perfect for 2-3" extended shackles. IDEAL for 3"lift SPUA. and 2ndhand from wreckers for ~$60 a pair
