Hi I have extended shackles hilux and comma shocks and 31s I want to get some 2 in lifted springs what are the best to get and what's this stuff about using rears in the front

Old man emu, or rockcrawler rears. the front rock clawlers i had were terrible, but the rears flexed like no ones business

the rear springs are longer then the front so there is more room for them to move, it gives you a better ride and more travel out of your front end

get rid of your shackles, and just fit a body lift, this will clear the tyres no lift at all

They're sold by 4WD1 or whatever the guys that distribute ranchos call themselves now.

Having bought Ranchos from them, I wouldn't trust their ability to understand which way up to install a leaf spring. They have NFI about suspension.

PS if anyone thinks I'm just being a hater for the sake of it, I'll give you some context. I spoke to their sales manager at length about running Ranchos on my Gwagen. He recommended PN99009 front and rear, with the fronts upside down. when I asked "what if they don't valve properly" the answer was " they have 800% adjustability.... they'll work" I replied "I want to get them dynoed to prove they will work" and his reply was "if you dyno one, you own it"

I bought one, and dynoed it, and the result was that A) Rancho's don't work upside down, and even right way up, were 20% too soft for the rear, and waaay to soft to be safe on the front.

Had I bought all four and fitted them, my car would have been undrivable.

I rang them to tell them that they should know their shocks didn't work upside down. They weren't interested

Not worth the risk IMHO.

There's no real advantage in extended shackles with stock length springs - more importantly, they screw up your caster, so unless you run caster wedges, your steering gets messed up.

OME Springs are good - I run them and it's all I would recommend.

As for RUF, It's pretty involved. This is a good thread. If you can't fabricate and weld, it's not really for you. This thread has some good info.

Your not the only one Steve! Those bloke are bloody fustrating to have a descent technical convo with. I rang them up asking for a shock to suit my zuk. I gave them the compressed minimum length (the most critical measurement) as well as an extended to try and match up as close as possible. The bloke I was talking to wasn't interested in these measurements he wanted to know what lift I have and that was it. Told him roughly 2 inch OME springs. He gave me the part number and shock details. Compressed length was like 40mm too long, I told him that and his solution was a 50mm bumpstop spacer. Doing this would have given me 10mm max between the bumps and the axles with this spring setup.

Also the finish on these shocks is pretty poor for the amount you pay. Flatmate just got a few new 9000's. The paint is thin and rust is starting to show, especially around the eye welds. The welds themselves look like sticker welds stuck on....
