With the computers they have in the cop cars now, when the run the rego of the zook they will instantly see that you are also the owner of a car they have an interest it... Your luck may run out one day...

I stated that it is illigal, i agreed. I just don't agree that the whole engineering certificate shit is such a waste of time and money, I have seen alot more dangerous ''roadworthy'' vehicles on the roads.

I'm pretty sure that most members on AZ are driving unroadworthy cars. I can see the reason for getting a certificate. I just think it should be alot cheaper for the general public... If the goverment cares about the issue so dearly then why cant they substitute the cost? I see it as revenue raising. As I have said there are alot more non modifyed vehicles on the road that are far more dangerous.

its not revenue raising at all... have you ever even looked into the process of engineering a vehicle? seriously??? the government gets $80 from the whole thing, and thats taking it over the pits and issuing the mod papers. the amount of work they do before that in approving the mods etc is all free.

I will have to drive my toy 900k, one way, hire a private airport, "hopefully" get it passed, then drive back home, by rights, it should be trailered, an I think this is a wonderful piece of mind.
No matter what you think, the law is the law, an aint diddly squat you can do about that. Drive it illegal, ok, all Alien is saying, is the correct way to do things, as the law states, can you not see that.
I for one think he is doing wonderful job in explaining the correct way to do things, you, on the other hand, are saying, who gives a fuk, drive it un roadworthy, do as you want, who gives a fuk,
Wrong, x 100
Man, you really have to stop sniffing laughing gas for breakfast.

Well, an experienced engineer will want to take between $150-200 an hour for his wages. then add the cost of the workshop, the tools, etc etc... Why do you think $1500 is unreasonable..?

thanks suziblu - considering the original post was asking about "what mods can i get away with on P plates" i think you summed it up well.
as for the 900k drive, i think its $12 or something (in WA) to get a temporary driving permit if the vehicle is unregistered to be able to drive it to a given route (which you advise by phone before getting the permit). So you can actually be insured on that 900k drive.
chris - yep, $1500 is a good price... he made 2 trips to see the build in progress and spent over an hour each time, then he had an argument with transport on my behalf and won, then he assessed the work in his workshop for over an hour, then he booked the track and arranged the driver for the lane change test, and he attended that for the 3 hours that took for all of us, then he wrote all the paperwork and issued the papers to me so i could go over the pits.

If you want a cheap engineer that the DPI has approved call this guy:
Sam Rossi
Rossi Mechanical Engineering Services
0411133588 92919368
He is bloody good and quoted me $200 for a engineers cert for my zook (Engine change over and suspension). When all others quoted around $800-$1600.

That was for a certificate, and noise test. I did not ask him about lane change tests, give him a call and ask, he is really easy to talk too and will give you heaps of help.

I'm on my p's. 2" lift 31's no flares. Just keep it tidy and don't be a dickhead and you shouldn't have a problem. I have two neighbours that are cops and they are more interested in how it goes offroad than whether my tyres are legal or not.

you know the stupid thing is that you can have a perfectly legally engineered car over east but you have rocks in your head if you think we could get the same thing passed here, they just dont want to know about it
Not to mention you could build a car exactly the same as aarons(alien) and they wont pass it cause the laws have changed.
I prefer to rely on sheer driving excellence, rather than gay insurance companys, if anyone wants some lessons on how to drive i know where there are some good roundabouts to practice your driving on

aahah this is quite entertaining. it will remain stock for a while or untill i can get enough money to actually get a lift and bigger tyres i will probably just do a 2" suspension lift and fit 215/75/r15 tyres, as this will be alot more affordable for awhile and i will mostly be beach driving aswell as everyday driver so to keep unwanted money exchanges like police i will stick to this plan.

spot on dude. drive the hell out of it stock for a few months and learn its quirks and handling, then chuck the tyres on (don't need lift to run them) - i reckon 215/75r15 BFGoodrich KM2 are the best in that size. My uncle runs them on his stock jimny and they completely changed what he could drive up! Once you save the coin again after doing the tyres the 2" springs will help with handling etc.
